How to survive?
So i played 100 min now, died 5-6 times already to starving, getting killed, water, lack of materials...

How to survive in the beginning? Cant almost build anything at the start, Yeah, a mining lasor, heat solar.. No mats left after that...

Need more materials to expand so i can have the water and food on.. But need to find the mats first.. Astroids comes and get few mats but long way from enough...

Get the expanding going and food and water built. No mats again. Food low.

Now since i spent my time and few resources to make my crew food and water, ships appear that starts killing me with some sort of Ion Pulse weapon that destroys my Heat in few shots...

No mats, cant mine, Not enoght power.. Game is♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥me off...

If i go on weapons, The crew will die of hunger.. If i fix the crew demands, others will kill me...

Same story evry time i made new game.. Cant survive no matter what....

Starting with 65 iron is low.. The youtube videos i watched before buying this, they all started with 100 iron... That is almost 50% less to start with...

1 mining laser 2 heat vents cpu panel and solar panel at start. Practice mining, find a good strategy for it. Always make sure you're evade is +1 or higher so you can jump from early enemy ships. I like to get a second mining laser and 2 more heat vents after i build a small section for food and water. Buy food from other ships if yo uget the chance, don't waste money on bribes or materials. It can be done. You just need more than a few attepts to learn the game.

You have to try to stay small so the enemy ships don't become too powerful too quickly. As long as they only have one or two of the dinky laser weapons, your engineers can outrepair the damage they do.

When you start, get one mining laser and two heatsinks, then expand to two mining lasers and four heatsinks, along with all the needed infrastructure. Make a little 3x3 room with a water cooler, food dispenser, planter box and navigation console. Get the navigation console up as soon as possible so you can order up more asteroid belts whenever your current one ends. When all this is done, add enough engines to have positive evade so you can jump out on enemies that are too tough.

Once you are set up with the basics, you can make a couple research stations and work them while keeping your size low. I wouldn't go into weapons until you researched the plasma turret, but after that you can expand pretty much in any direction.

If you can not figure it out for yourself, you need to read a guide and learn what to do. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=969972180 this one is pretty good. There ar other in th steam guide section.

I just started a new game very recently, it is much easier than before. Youo can do it !!

good luck have fun.

PS: if you ahve any questions ~AFTER~ reading the guide(s), feel free to ask.

Eighter, researh was sped up in later version or 3x speed throws my timings off, but one recearcher console was enough to keep my egineers busy and silicon storage dry.

Silicon used by research station? Also, the food growing, seems i dont get food from my 2 planters, just takes all my water but never adds food..

No it doesn't, but to build anything you research silicon is pretty much always needed. Are you sure your crew isn't eating it faster than you can make it? Had that issue once.

Silicon is not consumed by the research station, but you need it to build all the goodies you are researching.

A plant box needs a science crewman to function. They will water the plants until harvest, at which point for every 1 plant you gain you lose 2 water. You grow 1 plant per cycle per tile of box.

This means the 2x2 plant box will produce 4 plants per cycle at a cost of 8 water.

Its just damn unbelivable.. manage to get good start.. But then. They come with alot of guns. Demanding bribe of 300+ witch i cant pay.. All i have is a mining lasor... no guns.... 4 sqaures of space with food and water.. They ♥♥♥♥ me up... No matter what i do in this game, even with the guide linked, the game is kicking my fracking azz!

And food and water go soooo fast, i cant even build room for the water before ppl die from dehydration... Its ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ terrible!

I've created tutorial video video, never died since I started following those basic rules.
Might help you too

It sounds like you built your ship too big before you were ready if you got hostile ships that can actually do any damage. Normally, they come with only a few laser turrets, which can barely scratch the paint.

Try to build only as big as you need to meet all your needs, then focus on collecting resources and researching shields, reactors and CPU array.

You don't need anything more than 1 small plant bed to support even a crew of 10, 1 research and 1 navigation console. 1 of both water cooler and food dispenser. That's about it for stuff you need inside your ship.

As for outside it, aim for 4 mining lasers, with 8-10 heat vents and however many cpu and solar panels you need to run it. Also enough engines to have at least +1 evade, so you can jump.

Pro tip: You don't need enough CPU and power to run everything. Switch things off and on as necessary. This way you can do with a few cpu and solar panels less.

Expand a little to fit new storage containers as needed, and otherwise wait until you feel you have enough stuff to quickly build something that can give as good as it takes.

I'm actually on the other end of this. After all the research is done, would be nice to have something to do. Or at least some empty space to chill, damn, this is a crowded galaxy! What's the point of ship core research? is it possible to build a small fleet? I'd like to see some missions, or maybe the opportunity to expand our influence on planets etc, maybe take the fight to these pirates instead of running into them at random until we become pirates ourselves out of boredom. I recreated the entire crew of USS Enterprise II, except Scotty and Nurse Chapel, its aggravating reloading everytime i get a black guy with a purple mohawk. the F9 hotkey is helpful for the RNG factor of new crew members.
As a tip to OP, you can SHIFT select several components, such as weapons or mining lasers, then CTRL and a number, to make that number the hotkey for that group. I was stuck at a bit of a wall until I figured that out. Now I'm the scourge of the milky way

You can use the nav console to set course to both ships and asteroid belts. Almost immediately after your current NPC buddy leaves (or is blown up) you can set an intercept course for another ship. Then another and another.

The AI is too agressive and come to often at start. I cant manage to rebuild destroyed solar panels, heat sinks, and other stuff before next ship appear and start banging me.. When i finnaly did get a weapon on my ship.

Well guess what!! The AI have SHIELDS!!!! And 3-4 guns!!! WTF? Why the AI need too be 500% more then the player? Where is the balance there? 30 min in to the game and Shielded ships with 3-4 guns? An me stuck with a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ boxship 4*4 only food, water and 3 ppl since always 1 die of starvation or thirst!

JESUS!!!!

Dont mistake this for me being crazy.. I love the game.. Its just so damn hard or i am doing evrything wrong.. I am doing what guides are saying, watched yyoutube videos... Do same as them but evrything always fall apart cuz of them AI pirates!!

You are too large if the enemy ships are that overpowered compared to you. Use your space more efficiently.
