Skips in flashbacks and journal readings

I've had this strange problem for a while now where one minute, Daniel is narrating one part of his diary, then it completely skips over to another part. For example, when I picked up the Algeria diary, Daniel would narrate the first section.

"The unflinching African sun has continued to plague our expedition, making it impossible to dig until dusk. How Professor Herbert managed to find the location in these vast plains of nothingness remains a mystery to me. When I asked him about the tomb again, he told me about the legend of Tin Hinan, "the mother of us all". An interesting story in its own right, but I can't help feeling there's more."

But then, he'd just skip right to this phrase:

"... late into the dark cold night."

And again, that happens in both journal entries and flashbacks. I like to know the whole story, so it's more than a little irritating.
