Lobotomy Corporation

Lobotomy Corporation

Hi, official English tanslator of Lobotomy Corporation here.
I am aware of the current dire state of English translation in this game.

I'd like to address first that this is none of the Project Moon, or my fault.

Long story short, PM commissioned the translation to some allegedly professional translation service, and turned out they were just good-for-nothing bunch of idiots who don't know the first thing about Korean-Enligsh translation.

So here I am, to take care of their colossal poop-stain.

What I'd like to ask here is, which part of the in-game text desires immediate attention?

I will start my work from there. To the parts that are less messed up.

Huh, neat. Might as well mention some of the bad ones i encountered, then.

The tutorial is in a dire need of good translation from what i heard, however, i heard PM already had a fan look at it to atleast spell-check it and fix inconsistencies and grammar problems, etc, so not sure if that would need further attention or what they've got planned for it.

The E.G.O weapon and armor descriptions can be very, very weird sometimes. Its like an alien wrote them! It's understandable (90% of the time) but yeah, it just looks weird.

And in the game, the text that appears above/below some abnormalities can have translation errors, abnormalities like...
Rudolta, Der Freischüts, The Naked Nest and Nothing There.

In the first two cases it has a problem where it uses the employee's name where it should use the abnormality's name (AKA: "[employee]'s heart was pierced by the magical bullet" would need to be "[abnormality]'s heart was pierced by the magical bullet", for example.

Same with The Naked Nest, but it also mistakenly refers to the employee's brain as a nest, rather then as their brain (AKA it's saying something like: "The Naked Nest might mistake [employee]'s nest for a nest"). And it probably also has the bug where it uses the wrong name.

And if nothing has changed since then Nothing There's translation is just off the rails! Weird text with brackets, things that look like they might not belong in the text, and just needs alot of work, really.

Frankly, alot of abnormalities seem to have this bug where they refer to the employee's name when they should be referring to their own name in the work text. So it's worth looking through the text of many of them to see if it doesn't mistakenly use the variable that refers to the employee's name where it should've been using the abnormality name variable.

Another error i noticed is in the description of the Ordeal of White Dawn (also named "Request"), where the line ends with "[...] they have paycheck." which should probably be "[...] they have their paycheck." or something.
The Ordeal of Violent Dawn's end/exit message is also a little weird "They have not paid the price for understanding. Just do it. " or something like that, that probably needs to be re-evaluated, as i'm not fully sure what it was meant to mean.

Finally i remember a little bit of the story from days 46 and beyond having some grammar issues, especially anything involving "brain", where it typically translated better as "the human brain". Alot of "brain" related errors, now i think about it.

That's the most egregious errors i can remember (and mostly just spelling/grammar/etc issues), the sorta weird, slightly unprofessional-looking at times writing style never bothered me too much, it was perfectly understandable atleast.

Oh, right, reminds me, there's untranslated text in the new floating, sleeping Sheep-like abnormality (Void Dream was it's name, i think?), specifically, in it's story. And the Rabbit Team interface where you call them has a few untranslated texts at times (especially during special events like Core Supression), not sure if that's a translation issue or a game issue though.

Speaking of Core Supression, the lines that appear as you make your way through the day with the cores active sometimes have spelling errors, but only rarely. The one i remember is probably on day 47 Core Supression/Special Event, something involving the word "don't" being misused, probably in the line about not wanting to wake up sleeping comrades. Been a while...

That's really it for now, i think, finally ran out of notable errors that i remember. Maybe it helps?
Maybe you could start with some spelling and grammar problems right here, in your original post.

I can help if you want. You could also start downloading and installing Grammarly Chrome extension which detects your mistakes as you write, it helps a lot.

This seems to be a good game, let's make it readable.

Thanks. It's a great pointer.

What's the issue with my post? It'd be helpful if you tell me so I don't make the same mistake again.

1. (Spell mistake) "Collosal". Correct: Colossal.

2. (Grammar mistake and typo) "...bunch of idiots who doesn't know the first thing about Korean-Enligsh translation."

Explanation: If the subject of the sentence is plural, you don't use "doesn't" and you should use "don't" or "do not". You only use "does" or "doesn't" when the subject is singular. You also had a typo here "Enligsh".

Correction: "...bunch of idiots who don't know the first thing about Korean-English translation."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'd like to tell you that my offer to help is very respectful, sincere and by no means an attempt to make fun of anybody.

As an English teacher, and a person looking to buy the game (which seems really fun) I'm really glad you are trying to learn and improve too. The hard part has been done (the game).

If you add Grammarly to Chrome (free), this won't happen to you again. Ever.

God they're so basic it makes me embrrassed. I guess I wasn't really putting much thought when I wrote that. Thanks for the help.

We English learners improve with time and practice, that includes you so there's no need to feel embarrassed. Also, I'm pretty sure Chinese (or Korean) is a lot more difficult than English.
Glad I could help.
I uh... am the one that send a rewrite of the tutorial to Project Moon. I don't know anything about the Korean language or Chinese characters. I rewrote it using what was already there and the information I got from playing the game. English isn't my first language and seeing posts like these reminds me that my education level is... not too good. I'm starting to doubt whether I did it correctly or not. Perhaps you might wish to take a look at it and compare it with the original Korean version, which is something I wasn't able to do.

Edit: I still have a backup of the original english tutorial xml. (by original I mean before I started rewriting it.) If you need it, I could probably post it somewhere.

(to be honest, teachers make me nervous.)

(I probably shouldn't mention this.)

I kinda corrected stuff like this as well, for example your sentances here to
"I'll start my work from there and once finished move on towards parts that are less messed up."
which is, I guess more or less a wild guess for its meaning. I mean, "To the parts that are less messed up." could also be something like a goal, like "I will these parts less messed up.". ;; (Then wonder, as I correct it, maybe the sentance was supposed to be split, for example.)
...mm... ;sweat;
Thankfully after reading poorly translate Korean Manhwa and Poorly Translated Manga, I've become an expert at interpreting bad translations XD
The Void Dream's Abnormality story.
There is some piece in Korean, and i really badly want to know the complete lore.

There is lots of cleanup to do, and it's nice to see someone is taking care of this. Thanks.

Other thing have been already mentioned here, and there is nothing i could spontanously add without ending up in an enormous list of very obvious things of minor interest (random brackets in the texts, etc.).

Yet a consequent approach to employee genders would be nice. There are cases in which (when the texts properly refer to [employee] and [abnormality], the employees are either, refered as "his", "his/her" or even "its".

The Wings of the World (the greatest companies that provide the world with resources, jobs etc and basically hold all the money and its flow in their control) don't really think much of employees. They're just tools, objects to be used and easily replacable. Angela would probably think this as well. I think "its" might be correct. xD Though I suppose their and they could work.

Well, in the worst case you just work with "[employee]'s" and mention them by their full name instead of "he/she/it". There is always a way.
I don't think the game uses a gender system of any kind, which would be the main reasoning the translation regarding employees is ussually gender-neutral, the game doesn't know if the employee is female or male, so a gender-neutral term (and sentencing/structure/etc) gets used that would work either way.

Though, yeah, can't imagine the poor employees get much respect either, heh... Some of them comment they took the job just to get their family to a better place, and then there's a whole bunch of spoilery story reasons that makes their predicament even worse. But let's just say Angela is blatantly lying when she mentions the company does it's best for it's employees.

But somewhat on-topic again... Part of me is thinking it wouldn't hurt if someone fluent in the English language where to simply spell-check the end result, and sort out grammar and spelling mistakes and whatever else is overly noticable. But that program he mentioned would probably already help greatly with that, i suppose...?

Well, lets just say the translation can't get any worse... :P And good to know the translation is getting improved, eventually.

I am still trying to figure out if my employee Yuri, whom i managed to somehow keep alive for 20 days, is male or female... I'm totally aware there is no such system. But i want the gender-neutrality to be consequent.

And it kinda suits the whole theme when some Abnormalities do have the rigth for a gender, but the employee's don't. :P
I don't have time to check, but off the top of my head I remember Binah's dialogue falling under the "what the hell are you talking about?" tree, but that's prolly because I don't understand the terminology and how they speak is meant to be ambiguous and roundabout.
