Not getting Steam Achievements?

Hey everyone. I've tried everything I can think of but I'm just not getting any of the steam achievements for the game. I've deleted and reinstalled the game, and verified the integrity of it. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

Hey there, do try to completely uninstall When Our Journey Ends by deleting the cache that should be found in your documents then reinstalling the game. This often fixes the issue :)

Ingame I got a notification that I unlocked the achievement but it wasnt the steam notification.

The persistent save should be in C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\RenPy\ whatever the folder name is for when our journey ends. find it by searching %appdata% in the search bar of the start menu and navigate that way.

usually games that had broken or improperly set configurations for renpy, will hardlock the achievements until you delete the persistent save file. Note this will delete all your progress so please make a backup if you care to.

I haven't played the game myself, but if someone wants to go delete the file and try again, it would be much appreciated.

hi can you try uninstalling, disabling cloud save, and delete the specific folder listed above for when our journey ends (not the entire renpy folder) and try installing and playing again?

darn, that usually helps in most games.

My assumption right now is that its possible that maybe one of the game patches might have broken achievements, or it might be an error unique to some users.

can you explain the steps you took in the game to test gaining an achievement?

It seems most users complaining around July 24th that they're having trouble with achievements.
The last patch was on September 1st. the patch prior to that was July 10th, so my assumption is that the July 10th patch might have caused issues.
If the sept 1st patch worked for achievements, then I should test it and be fine because i have no persistent data. It seems a few of these users might have not played before Sept 1st, if that is the case, then the sept 1st version after removing persistent save isn't gaining achievements either.

I just tested using the current version of the game, and no luck, didn't get the first achievement kamacuchi or whatever it was called.

there is a patch from April 16th that might work through depot method, so we continue on down the line. You can slightly follow the history here.

if you click the players tab, you can see many users getting achievements until it slows down after April. Its tricky with renpy sometimes just reinstalling fixes it, and sometimes not.

I can confirm the april 16th patch is a working verison of the game for achievements.

After deleting/removing persistent save in C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\RenPy\WhenOurJourneyEnds*

Then deleting/removing the contents of the default download for When our Journey Ends and replacing it with the contents of the Downloaded Depot.

Note, while the download is happening there is no progress bar, but you can tell that it is still downloading by looking at your network traffic on the downloads page. It does download slow took me like 30 minutes even on good internet speed.

I pressed play in steam and played normally, got the achievements working.


*update 2020, turns out the syntax needs [] around the manifest id to work, lol.
