Couldn't believe this is made by one person! Pretty decent.
It's a classic 2D side-scrolling action game. Worth it.

Player experience is significantly enhanced after patches.

Animations are smooth as fk and the Retro artstyle gives it a nice touch,
reminds me of arcade games back to 90's.
Plot is interesting enough, Monk's dialouges are quite funny.
Gameplay is solid, the variety of items helps stacking up combos.
Controls feel handy, everyone can grab a gamepad and jump in.
It supports local co-op, what else can I complain?.....the camera?..huh

This game deserves more attention and appreciation.

I saw a TV episode , introducing the developer of this game , and I am deeply impressed by the story behind . Competition in gaming industry is intense , with solely one person carrying all the works to build up a game , post it onto the shelves , is absolutely phenomental. That's why I bought it , to show support to a guy who really deserves more .

The game itself brings back memory of some classic 2D scrolling action game in our youth's age. The game is smooth , graphic might not be great , and variety of enemies is somewhat limited. Yet it still provides adequate difficulty for challenging experience. Good guys have decent portrait while bad guys look evil , classic design in old fashion games and cartoon. Though I hope they will let me switch the character after each stage , even those join the squad along the journey.

- Made in Hong Kong, only by one person!!! Thats why I bought it.
- Nice picture, great combo system.
- No weapon system is a good decision for this game.
- Cliche story starters. But its acceptable for RPG game, and it seems attracting for me.
- Eva. Pretty NPC.


Disadvantages：
- I prefer my character CANNOT pass through the enemy. (except dodge)
- I am stage 5 right now, so far a little bit easy for me. Looking for more challenging stage later.
- No female character. How can it be!


Suggests：
- Skill system: Earn points for unlock different skills (only equip one in each stage. Restart the stage if you want to change your skill etc.) or upgrade the skill.
- Co-op mode? If yes, it will be cool. (Friendly fire is a must :D )

Made by a solo developer out of Hong Kong,Sword of the Guardian is a bit of an odd beat em up. It can sometimes be buggy, the dialogue is cliché and the localization is poor, but the combat is fantastic! I could not stop juggling already-dead foes! You start by choosing one of three playable characters: Monk, Dwarf, or Swordsman. They each have unique fighting styles. For example, while the Monk and Swordsman can dodge out of danger, the Dwarf’s dodge button is used for block. For each fighter, there are a ton of offensive options and the controls are smooth. You can execute a basic combo by mashing on the attack button. You can throw daggers, bombs and other items you pickup. And the star of the show here are the special moves that each character can execute. With these options, you can use your own ingenuity to create combos.

There are three special moves: down, right + attack for a lateral strike; down, up + attack for a launcher and B for an ultra move. The way these are tailored to each of the fighters is impressive. Monk’s launcher well send him into the air diagonally and come down diagonally, which will launch a group of foes once he’s grounded. This is a relatively safe way to enter a large crowd and start going in. Swordsman’s launcher is much more like a Shoryuken. It’s slower than Monk’s and will leave you vulnerable to projectiles in the air. I’m also a fan of Monk’s ultra which will blast enemies into a wall-bounce enabling you to juggle them further.

Based on the combat engine, it’s clear that the developer is a fan of action games. It takes a while to get back up from a knockdown, but you can hit jump in mid-air to reset the knockdown. You can cancel out of your basic attack string to dash or throw weaponry – this can help you out of danger if you see an attack coming. All of these, are choices that provide a level of mastery for intermediate and advanced players to reach towards. The bosses are similarly well-executed and will ask you to bring your A-game if you’re to dispatch of them quickly. Sword of the Guardian is a game I kept coming back to because the combat engine has that Mario quality of being just plain fun to control. If you like action games, definitely give this a look.

Nice casual beat-em-up. Reminds me a little of Captain Commando with the combos and juggling.

I love how you can get into crazy combos of 50+ hits and the game is a lot of fun. The items, spells and rings that you find add a bit of tactical play.

I'm very impressed for the little I paid.

I will concede that it gets a little monotonous, but that's only because the levels are about 40% too long. But the game is fun as heck and if you like combos and juggling and casual play, you won't regret buying this!

It's really rare for a video game, much less an action game, to be "so bad it's good," but this one pulls it off. Fairly refined combo mechanics and movelists combined with amatuerish animations, models, and everything else make it a ton of dumb fun, especially with friends in co-op.
