Game turns to a black screen at the end and nothing happens

Hi

Played it through I think. I didn't get the 'finish the game' achievement so I don't know.

SPOILER:
I reached the big tree and the fox dissolved into sparkles, then the screen turns black and nothing else happens. /Spoiler end
Couldn't even use my pc anymore and had to reset it. Today I loaded the savegame and it loaded with said black screen and nothing happening, I don't even hear my pc doing anything. At least I could Alt+F4 out this time.

What happens afterwards that could cause this?

I have a very old pc that doesn't fit the requirements but I had no trouble at all playing the game, until said end.

The quality setting... is 1 best or worst? It's set to 5 and considering my pc I assume 1 is best. But I don't want to try out 6 if it's not and I'd make things worse.

Sounds like you were in chapter 5, when the fox dies. This is not the end of the game. Chapter 6 should begin with Joseph as the playable character. Seems that your game freezes there.

Maybe you want to try out one of my saves I used to train chapters (but they have 0 stars!)

Just copy the save6.txt in the folder:
"C:\Users\%username%\AppData\LocalLow\David Wehle\The First Tree"
and rename it to save.txt. Then you can start at chapter 6.
