"I can't pass the Stratagem tutorial!!" AKA Keyboard Ghosting

Your Keyboard is just ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and has ghosting issues -OR- a third party program is overriding your Ctrl+ Commands. The best the devs could do is change the default Stratagem button, but that easily causes more issues for more people.

So, I know other people had this issue but I doubt most people have ever dealt with it prior.

When you go to use Stratagems, you have to hold Ctrl and hit the WASD keys in various combinations.
If you've never tried playing something like a fighting game on Keyboard before, there's a little known quirk about some keyboards you probably won't know about but run into here.
If too many keys are hit at the same time, or certain keys are hit at the same time, the keyboard fails to send the input to the computer.

I couldn't complete the tutorial because of this until I realized the game wasn't broken, I just have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ keyboard, and I changed Ctrl to a button that *CAN* work with my WASD keys (in my case that being Alt)

While there are probably tons of issues in this game (I wouldn't know, I just launched it), it seems silly to let people keep being angry and just straight up wrong about something that isn't even the devs fault.

My suggestion to the devs is to make Stratagem either a toggle on Keyboard by default or change the default to something safe that should work, like Shift.


TLDR: I just wanted to make a big, long, lengthy post to let people know that: No, the game isn't broken in the tutorial, your keyboard just doesn't like simultaneous key presses.

i put stratagems to spacebar, because climbing is pointless. running at an ~15° angle will do it too (if you start at a wall).
also i changed the stratagem wasd to the arrowkeys, so now i can walk&run while calling for democratic firesupport.

idk what kind of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up hands youve got where you cant put your little finger on control and have your ring, middle and index finger primed and ready to hit WASD but go off king your voice is valid

i literally wrote the solution in the post ._.

Your keyboard is ghosting which means the default Stratagem button conflicts with your other keys.
You'll have to rebind Stratagem from Ctrl to maybe Alt, Shift, or maybe keep it on Ctrl and use the Arrow keys for Stratagem directions

I'm using an xbox controller and reassigned the key to a button command that wasn't being used. When activating it the menu pops up for the briefest part of a second and I get a gun animation on screen.

uhhhh... if you're gaming you should be using an anti-ghosting keyboard, membrane keyboards aren't good for gaming.

The issue is Cntrl + W is a windows based shortcut, so it's exempt from the rule. You'll always ghost if you have to hold control.

Im doing that, with my left hand although being right handed and i complete my inputs faster than anyone in the teams i have played with throughout my 60+ hours playtime.
I can finish the reinforcement stratagem that way in less than a second.
So what exactly is the problem? Its all just getting used to something.

You can also change the input from "hold" to "press" so that you just need to hit the key once and it'll keep the stratagem menu open the whole time

And while third party programs overriding binds can be a problem for many, *most* people (and I'd say the average person playing the game as well) will be having issues because of Keyboard Ghosting. I've already seen several dozen people not know about this and think it's the game's fault.

Your issue might have been Samsung Magician, but tons of people's issue *is* ghosting, which is why I made the rant/ramble/whatever post
But yeah, I'll add that tidbit so anyone else with Mechanical or whatever knows it could be overridden binds

Yes, for a gaming PC you really need a gaming keyboard with decent anti ghosting features and a high number of allowed simultaneous key presses.

The price of the keyboard doesn't mean it would be the best for gaming, as there are expensive keyboards out there for professional office work too.

It's a matter of specialization; different purposes require different tools. Some keyboards of course take the middle road as well, and prove some basic features for both sides.
