Why Can You Recycle Cosmetics? (It shouldn't be a feature.)
Why? Just Why? They are hard enough to come by already. Why would you give us the option to deconstruct them for a really, really small result of a few scraps?

They are ridiculously more hard to obtain than weapons. They can easily get caught in a session of "mass deconstructing low level items" by accident. Such as someone deciding to get rid of all their items under level 295, and so they just purge everything. Then only after, they realize that they can deconstruct cosmetics.

And yes, this did happen to me. I'm not as mad about losing them (As I don't see myself ever using those PARTICULAR cosmetics, but I worry for the future. I'm also mad that the game made it so easy for me to do this without me acknowledging it. They give a player 500 useless items, and then a couple really rare items, then they have a deconstruct system and mix those really rare cosmetic items in the middle of everything, particularly in the middle of all the low level items. And another infuriating thought is that they'll pop up in the drop tables again, so I'll have a lower chance to get the cosmetics I want. Because I deconstructed some cosmetics that were useless to me, now they can pop up once more.

I recycled 1 or 2 when starting out because I didn't know any better. "Looks ugly, they prolly stack up duplicate anyway"

I tink it is F you can press while hovering over any item to make it favorite so you wont be able to salvage it by accident

This^ Just favorite all your reds and cosmetics that you plan on keeping/using.

The only cosmetic that are really worth scrapping are the fugly dual mohawk and the handmaiden ♥♥♥♥♥ helm.

But read somewhere that now the cosmetics won't duplicate. Meaning that if for some reason you got all the pretties and fuglies for your character you start getting for another one.

Only Bogenhafen cosmetics won't dupe. I believe. I may be wrong. in any case, if you salvage them, the game will act like you don't have them... so you are better off just keeping them, either way.

No cosmetics are WORTH scrapping. They don't give you anything in return. At least, nothing you can't get from scrapping a much easier to get weapon. And as I said, I don't want to have to deal with them popping up again now that I scrapped them.

But another scary thought is, I don't know if I can even get some of them again. If some cosmetics can only be earned once and I scrap them, if I suddenly want them it's game over for me.

Cosmetics are a lot different than weapons. There's not much reason you'd want to return to a level 5 weapon. Cosmetics don't level though. They should be things you just unlock and they are there whenever you want them. If you don't want them, you don't use them. You don't scrap the incredibly rare items for little to nothing. Additionally, the way the scrapping is implemented, it encourages accidental scrapping. It's just a stupid feature that makes no sense and causes more problems than it is worth.

I didn't even know I could favorite items. The game never tells you. Just like it never tells you you can scrap cosmetics.

I'm fine with games that leave you to learn stuff on your own. But this needs some explaining or a change. There needs to be some safeguard.

This is just bad game design. And this is coming from someone who loves this game. This causes issues for players who are encouraged to learn through trial and error, through their own means, etc, but it punishes them severely in the process.

Again, I would be furious if these were cosmetics I actually liked. But I do believe I actually scrapped some legendary cosmetics without even knowing.

So I'm still upset that I lost these cosmetics, because I never intended to get rid of them. But the game treats them exactly the same as gear, which can become useless and need to be scrapped. But cosmetics don't become useless, the only thing that renders them useless is your sense of style. Not the game itself.

But the game treats them as any other weapon, making mass-deconstruction a pain because it's highly likely you will deconstruct something. And IF you got a cosmetic you actually like? It makes it that much easier to get rid of THAT cosmetic too. (Naturally the deconstruction menu ranks gear by its power level. It doesn't do that with cosmetics. So it mixes random cosmetics in your low level gear, that once you want to purge your storage you can easily get rid of those without even intending to.)

Don't JUST think of it as getting rid of junk you don't like without asking you. Think of it as also potentially getting rid of stuff you DO like because there's no safeguard.

I don't know about DLC hats, but normal hats shouldn't duplicate.
Cosmetic hats drop from Commendation Chests, for the specific hero you have selected. We've made changes so that you won't be receiving duplicate hats. If the currently selected hero already has all available hats, a random new, unique hat will be awarded to you.

Well, technically it can, but they really need to make it more known. The only place I've seen it ever mentioned is as a tip in the loading screens. It didn't even used to be there after the Favorite Item feature was added, so that's better than something but still pretty awful at telling players. When you consider just how many dozens of loading screen tips there are, the chances of seeing that particular one and reading it aren't very high. You can't even rebind the key for the function, which at least having that available in the settings screen would be enough to raise awareness at least a little bit.

At least you CAN fav items now unlike before (But I agree without constantly checking the news I might've not noticed) I fav all my red items (that I won't salvage) and hats.
They should prompt the user for stuff like this at the very least.

Like:

"Are you sure you want to salvage these? This contains:
Cosmetic(s)
Red Item(s)"

Mainly so that new players don't have to learn through mistake that this can happen. Safeguards are always nice to have, and they are much easier to remove than to implement. Too many safeguards can be a nuisance, but it is easy to fix. Too few can do irrepairable damage which is hard to fix.

And I am a bit sad that I will not be getting those items back it seems, as some of them were from the Bogenhafen chests.

But still, this is not okay. The game shouldn't casually throw incredibly rare cosmetics into the mix, no matter what rarity they are. Especially when they give little to nothing for it. So overall, they are just wasting your time.

Not a bad suggestion!
Yeah very good idea! They are rare enough that the prompt would not be much annoying and it could also show "You can press F over these items to favorite them in inventory to prevent them from showing in crafting" along with a checkbox for "do not show this message again".

That way everyone gets a fair warning and already alerted players have the option to not be prompted if so desired.
