Personally though, I prefer survival, because it only requires 4 players (myself included) so there are less variables that can ruin the game experience. eg. team imbalances and people leaving (through rage quitting or getting kicked). Which is one of the main problems I have with versus as it upsets the overall flow of the game.
And secondly I prefer survival over other cooperative gamemodes purely because it provides a higher level of intensity compared to campaign with more SI, tanks and CI.
Although if we're to take community mutations into account as well my friend's survival mutation Hard20 is probably my favourite gamemode, because it offers an even higher spawn rate for infected than vanilla survival. Effectively increasing the intensity and shortening the length of rounds, so you end up with quick and exciting rounds compared to long, drawn out rounds that can happen once you reach a certain level of skill in vanilla survival.
Id host my own local server and force sv-cheats 0 to kill unlimited ammo.
After 150 bullets theyd toss the m60 and be forced to finish an expert round with nothing but magnum.
Good Times.
