Seriously, this touches me.... There's still hope in L4D2!!
Despite the poignant view i hold for L4D2 due to influx of noobs (take note the word, noobs, aint newbie), i have just gone through a game, mixed with Newbies. It's so fun.

They are so new that they are not really familiar with the map, and needing ppl to guide them through the locations. But they DO listen! And what touches me the most is, despite being newbies, they cant deadstop/skeet whatsoever, but they stood their ground as a newbie group (and even dying together in a pile *jokes* no offence, but u can see their co-operation level from here), covering for each other so well. Their simple yet effective attacks are great. Their willingness to stick as a grp is really admirable.

All i got to say is GG! Hope there's more of the newbies instead of noobs.
Has been rather long that i have enjoyed so much in a game!

i let people explore, as long as they go with another player, dont likewhen people run off like in room to room of the motel part alone.
buddy system works lol..
until 3 specials surround you.
Despite what most people on this forum seem to encounter, I generally find nice/cooperative teammates of varying levels in pubs. Maybe it's just because I don't frequent versus nor can I play expert yet. xD

I'm still relatively bad at l4d2 but I do know the maps, so if newbies get lost I try to run back to help. There was this team with 2 good players, plus me and the newbie. It's an awesome experience when everyone cooperates to play for fun instead of stressing out and rushing, and despite dying to the tank (finale tricaps) a couple times, we managed to complete 3 campaigns in good time. ^^
I'm brand spanking new to the game (and steam, in general), though I've played cs for a couple of years now. Have clocked about 30 hours on l4d2, maybe?

Unfortunately, not many people have the patience for newbies like myself, either to explain things or give me time to mess up and/or figure things out. I do read up beforehand and follow well enough on campaign runs, but other than that, what I've learned most is to not take votekicks to heart. I just found the scavenger mode! And was super apologetic about not knowing what exactly was going on. But people aren't very forgiving. Guess I'll try again tomorrow.

Unless. Well. Maybe I'm unwittingly a noob. :\

@greenhorn: I don't play often and I'd expect we have insane pings playing together, but it sounds like people are just being impatient/mean.
(Edit: Hey, we're from the same country so ping issues would be nil. If you wanna add, feel free to.)

Were you playing on versus matches? Votekicks seem more often there. Scavenge mode is insanely fun, a tip I'd give for newbies trying to learn versus is to go to any 10v10 scavenge map first. Sure you may play bad, but with 10 on each team I find that people blame less often, and you still get to learn how to spawn/what to do with each infected. Big difference is that you play on one chapter and the infected don't necessarily have to attack together (of course, cooperation is the best always xD).

I played a game with 2 friends and a stranger a few hours ago, and we had to kick him out.

The problem isnt if you are new to the game, or if you try to explore, thats fine. But if people dont communicate, hold back the team, dont listen to others, then they deserve a votekick in my opinion, this is a team game after all.

The guy played 115 games and survived 5 finales..., i think that shows how "good" he was in this game.

i die on finale's sometimes. but thats because ill run acrossed the level to save a downed guy.
i had a tank chase me, so went in a big circle, defibbed a guy while on shot, and distracted it so they could make it to the chopper.. lol. sadly i did not survive.

The main point is, most of the noobs just do their own stuff, without prior knowledge to what they are doing. Despite warnings of "pls listen/follow advices", they still do their own craps. It's just..... Annoying. I will usually votekick them out, if the other noobs voted no, i will just RQ.

Tbh most of the games now i play, i dont really enjoy them. It's more of a training session for expert mode. Imagine this, ur on 4hp, that guy's on 80. Usually pills will go to 4hp right? He popped the pills like candy. N i survived the chapter on 4hp (ofc, since im low on hp, i wont even bother covering them, i stuck to a cosy corner and self defend lulz, then im blamed for being noob)

Seriously, some noobs just forgot that they are on MP instead of SP. In SP, ur the god. In MP, everybody plays a part, you just gotta tune in with the grp... They deserved to be votekicked and sent to SP forever.

sometimes instead of trying to save everyone, u got to make a firm judgement of what's "save-able" and what is not (or at least putting ur life at high risk). Unless ur trying to help the ppl to get the achievement, it's rather risky to try save someone. Gotta do some cost-benefit analysis.

If genuine efforts are made, nobody will blame u, despite their inability to finish the game. When im downed at some dangerous spots, i will just tell me team to move on, instead of spamming HEEEEEEELPPPPP MEEEEE, which will further endanger the team. This is especially so in vs, where the SIs can plan to make a 2nd attack at the exact same dangerous spot, unlike AIs dumdums who spam their atks
well, as i ran up to them i threw a pipe, hit myself with a shot. and defibbed.

but i only do it if people are safely on the copter so it isnt a total loss.
i even jumped off to save bots. lol.
in my apocolyse, no one on my team dies, lol. if they do, ill die with them.
One of the biggest ways new players cause frustration is as you say, 'exploring' by themselves which leads to incaps whilst you are covering the rest of the team.
It causes seasoned players to want to kick them, and often results in nobody enjoying the game as you have!
I too like playing with ANYONE (not only new people) who can LISTEN. (Some people think that once they have played a campaign 2-3 times they are experts.)
It is one of the fundamentals of this game, and if you can listen (or even, read) you will go a long way to being a great team player.
IMO,
The different levels of newbie transformation to a decent player are
1. Running like mad chickens without GPS.
2. Dora the explorers, map included in bag-pack.
3. Listens, and follows advices.
4. Starts to offer/come up with a simple but effective plan.
5. Comes up with a majestic and effective plan to insta-kill 1 player.
6. Make do with what u have, improvision to maximise dmg/delay.

@tsukinaka I only play when I get off work early-ish but I'd be happy to have a friendly person around? Thanks :) I've sent you an invite (my first ever!)

I've not touched versus matches because I'm not that cray yet. Just campaigns, which I've ♥♥♥♥♥♥ a hang of mostly, and now scavange. I seem to always join the team that has no clue what they're doing in scavange though, and I've been told I absolutely suck as the tank.
Most players suck as SI in versus (initially), thats normal.

The best if you play play vs. with friends like i did 1.5 years ago, then you wont have negative experiences, and you will play with people you can actually learn from.
"Seriously, this touches me.... There's still hope in L4D2!!"

No guys, there isnt hope... :)

Just finished a Crash Course on Normal with pubs. Awful.
Recorded it, i might include the link so everyone can feel sympathy for me. :)
