help! how do I -insecure????

I'm trying to connect to a game and a message pops up saying I have to delete at -insecure from my launch options to get into the VAC server.

I tried right going to properties and couldn't find anything of the sort!

Please help!

Entirely unnecessary.

Right Click Left 4 Dead 2 in Steam
Go to Properties
General Tab > Set Launch Options
Remove -insecure
Ok

Note: Addons can also cause this error. Remove all your addons (move them to a backup filder in the addons folder) and try launching the game.

If all else fails just Verify the Game Integrity.

He just said -insecure wasn't in his launch options, so that's not going to help.

I've never heard of this error being caused by addons. Some poorly made mods can cause problems, but probably not this specific one.

In my five years of dealing with L4D2 Servers and client addons I [/i]have[/i] seen it happen. Since he is in game I assume the issue is resolved...

Insecure comes from the launch options. The most common cause of this problem is launching from a desktop shortcut, because the desktop shortcut, by necessity, launches in a different way. It would take a modder who is spectacularly unskilled to be able to screw up that bad in an addon to modify how the game launches, if such a thing were possible.

Anyone can make a shortcut and add a command line launch option to it. I do it all the time for my srcds startup. Also, launching from the desktop rather than Steam presents more problems in itself especially if Steam isn't running.
