but why is it required for single player?
I believe it is because the game was built for multiplayer. When you load a "single player" world you're essentially just hosting a hidden server.
Please correct me if I'm wrong JB
not sure then why they put LAN tag on the store page - last I checked LAN never required internet
LAN means local area network so yes internet is still required
LAN means you can connect computers to each other - even without internet - you can do that by either directly connect two computers with one network cable or even many computers using router.
You know how I know that? Because I didnt have internet over 20 years ago and me and my brother connected our PCs with each other and played together using LAN - now how did we manage that without internet? Also me and my friends many times took our PCs and gathered at my friends place and played CS together - also no internet connection.
Now take a moment and think about it... or do some research - please
