Early Access Release Date / Delay
Hi everyone,

I hate to bring bad news but unfortunately we're going to have to delay the Early Access launch of the game for a while longer. We're making good progress on the game but in it's current state I feel like we're not ready for Early Access yet.

There are two reasons for this - the first is that I don't want to disappoint people who are clearly keen to play the game by serving up something sub-standard, and the second is that I'm concerned we'll get a bit of a battering in the Steam reviews and potentially have to carry those negative reviews for the entire lifetime of Xenonauts 2 (even if we later fix all those issues).

We're not quite sure how long this delay will be for right now. There's not actually that many big features we still have to implement so it could be as short as six weeks if everything goes smoothly - but that rarely happens with a game this complex, so I'm estimating around three months.

If people understand the game is still quite rough and are still keen to buy it before the Early Access launch, we're looking at a third party service called Xsolla that would allow you to access our Closed Beta builds immediately and then get a Steam key as soon as the Early Access launch does happen. I know this isn't the ideal solution but hopefully it'll be better than nothing.

Apologies once again for the delay; I know it sucks that we keep moving the release date back and we're working as hard as we can to get everything ready for you guys!

@goldhawk I am one of those people that are keen on playing the closed beta and aware that it's still buggy. I was apart of the original xenonauts backers and wanted to back this game early on as well, but got busy towards the end of last year and missed the early entry. Will i still have an opportunity to join the closed beta or am I out of luck?

The transparency is admirable and your care for your work is clear, many thanks.

there are several examples for an EA on steam too early was suicide...

a beta not on steam is best for real feedback, i guess...

but you have to change the EA text and the release date at the shop page....

Sounds like a very smart move, honestly. Steam reviews can ruin a game for all the wrong reasons. Release it when you feel it's ready. It's always better that way. I'd much rather wait longer and get an awesome experience rather than get a severly unfinished product immedietely. You guys rock! :)

Well, so long as its to polish the game and make it perfect and not so you can finalise a deal to change to the Epic Games Store, I don't mind!

Thanks for letting us know. Update your Store page, also :steammocking:

What's the beef with Epic exclusives? I don't really think it matters which online store I download a game from. I also have GOG and itch.

Because it's forced, consumers artificially don't get a choice where to buy their games from, Epic's just bribing devs to not release on Steam, GOG, and other platforms, it's anti-competitive.

Are the rumours of this going to the epic store as an exclusive true? Please confirm or deny.
>inb4 the devs dont respond.
No response will leave me to believe this is the true

I don't mind waiting. I've got Mutant Year Zero to play (excellent turn-based, X-com-like ground combat and careful weapons-tactics-terrain/map mastery required). When I back a game on Kickstarter (as I did with Xenonauts 2), I am backing an approach and subject matter, not a deadline. If the devs were ignoring us and not communicating, then I would be unhappy. Since June of last year when I sent my KS contribution I have gotten 19 updates, 3 so far this year. I don't feel ignored, although I understand why people get upset about missed deadlines.

I will gladly wait. I was an x com fan all the way, but the later ones, tho great, are over WAY to quickly, kill the ship in the atmosphere.......? wheres the old find the alien planet/moon, take the fight to them.
Xenonauts, was awesome, and playing it now with trying the different mods, is a dream come true.
take your time on it, bring out the great game i know it will be. but hopefully, it will be a kick ass ending as well.
P.S. no idea what phoenix point is, but i know i will wait for you guys
