Cross platform?

Hello, just wondering if I buy for PC if when playing online I can be paired up against or play with PS4/Xbox players as well. I sure hope it is cross platform.. Thanks.

Indeed that would be a great thing to see. As local multiplayer is limited to 4 players, online isn't, cross platform would allow me to play with my friends. Some don't have a PC, some don't have a PS4, that would be the solution.

I emailed codemasters, who make the game, and got a response from customer services saying this:

For the life of me I cant understand that games like this arent cross platform, serously we live in 2017 and we still dont have games that truly cater to the wider audiences as a whole instead of this stupid platform segregation, pretty pathetic to be honest.

It's technically very difficult to get cross-platform multiplayer between PC and consoles. Psyonix (Rocket League) has its own server farm and match making, and PC can play with Xbox and PS4, but this depends also on the console manufacturs.
For example PS4 cannot play against Xbox because Sony doesn't allow it and sees other consoles as competitors.

So it's not surprising you won't ever see PC vs PS4 vs Xbox in this game.

But for me as a Linux gamer, my question is:
Is there a cross-system multiplayer inside of Steam? So can we play Windows vs MacOS vs Linux?
It's a buy critery for me because if not (seriously, Team17 made this fault with Worms W.M.D.) the game's multiplayer would be dead on arrival on MacOS and Linux.
