I'm way into it, frankly. I loved the first game partly for its way out there, intentionally sick and grotesque design. It was new and crazy and great. Then instead of just reiterating the art style, they try something which is weird and grotesque and new all over again.

It's absolutely not what I expected and I love it.

I kinda like it. Sure, it's grotesque, but it almost looks like one of those really poorly-conceived western SNES games, which somehow just fits.
The character designs fit the aesthetic but I feel the humanoids and the worm are a mistake. It's both grotesque (misshapen bodies) and cutesy (cartoon style art direction wit vibrant colors) and that combination is irritating and offputing because they clash so much.

I would personally do the designs completely over but if they artists are reluctant to do that then either use a different pallet or make the faces and bodies more similar to the original game (which are far more appealing)

As it stands this will definitely keep certain people away from this game who would enjoy it. I never touched the 1st game but I recently saw it in action and this sequel shows a great deal of improvement on some very sophisticated game mechanics so I'll get it either way. But my first reaction upon seeing the worm and humanoids was, no.

Well, gamepay was king for Nidhogg so it definitely doesn't affect my purchase, but this awful direction to take the characters (everything else looks great though)
Naked Homer Simpson muppets sure fit a medieval fantasy combat game.

Except not. This style is atrocious.
Looks like Messhof is asking us to beat them at their own game again. :accepted:

sick of that atari style so i welcome snes style. pixels remind me a bit of gba though.
Yeah, the character designs look disgusting, and I really don't like the art style as a whole.

The first game had such a great aesthetic, this is really a disappointment.

Yea, the change in graphics stye is nice and all, but the characters look horrible. Would rather see plain figurines without details again than these ugly creatures.

Basically this.
I really really like the backgrounds! My biggest complaint would be the wonky animations. Nidhogg 1 was all about precise movement and absolute control over your fighter. This just looks super wonky, impercise and almost physics base. The models aren't really apealling either but at least make them feel good.
I wonder if we'll have the ability to change the model designs?
Honestly I get they're making a new stand-alone game that is supposed to be different from the first one but the way the trailer has been received I'd be suprised if they dont change it. People arent even talking about a new nidhogg game they are just talking about those charakter models. It's sad bc messhoff is awesome and a nidhogg is fantastic! But if only one spritesheet is keeping people away from this game... I hope they're not trying to prove a point and I know toby can do a better job.
This is nothing but Youtuber bait. Do not defend these awful designs you sheep.

What on earth are you talking about.

WOW SO WHACKY AND FUNNY HAHA! THE CHARACTERS ARE SO GROSS AND SILLY!

Same deal as Goat Simulator. Something disgusting and whacky looking that Youtubers can make content from and draw in more people wanting to try that hot new whacky flavor of the month because Pewdiepie or similar played it. This game is a direct slap in the face to its root.
