The most absurd thing is that the things the developer said were completely tame, average and normal for the vast majority of the population of the world. VAST SUPER-MAJORITY, BY FAR. You could hear it said from mothers and fathers and people in the street you talk to at random in a hundred languages and more, it's so completely unremarkable. I think the dev was making jokes about those kinds of people. I'm pretty sure it's a form of satire, but I guess plenty of people took it at face value and got offended.

pro tip, nobody cares what the guy believes, no matter how stupid he is for it. They care that it has literally no place in game, let lone patch notes for the game, not to mention the extremely childish behavior that follows backlash to his behavior.

I don't care about anyone's gab account. Not been there. I don't go on that site and have no reason to and I doubt I ever will. If someone has to go out of their way to hunt down and root through people's stuff and to obscure or isolated locations to find an excuse to get upset about a few words then the problem would be with them, not the person they are upset about. This is all backwards attempts to justify hating someone or hurting them after the fact. "I stabbed him/burned his business/slashed his tires/lynched them with a mob...but after I did it I found these really mean statements in his diary after it so it was totally justified after all!". No thank you, that is an evil world.

A mob trying to ruin someone's livelihood in this manner and ruin what is actually and was widely recognized by players as a good indie game is disgusting cowardly mob bullying behavior. Having so little empathy as these haters do shows what bad people they truly are. A healthy and good person would see that such hate and mob action is despicable at a minimum because they wouldn't like it to happen to them.

None of this is justified or proportional. It's an excuse for people to stroke their egos and feel good by ruining a nice little game community, dragging all this nonsense into it, hurting someone in cowardly mob actions and seemingly spending hours doing it for months just because some random indie dev the mob wasn't even aware of has been selected as the victim in the slow news day. If any of these people were as good as they like to pretend and lie to themselves that they are there's infinite things better in the world to attend to. Awful people making the world worse by adding more pointless hate and bullying to it and only seemingly know how to hurt and destroy.

I spent time volunteering today. Nothing amazing or remarkable in that but that was just a little bit of good with my time added to the world for others. If many people do good and help others with positivity and creating what they can with their abilities, it adds up and the world is better for all. Petulantly ruining game forum or business or cowardly trying to hurt someone as part of a mob doing EXTRA JUDICIAL LYNCHING STYLE MOB PUNISHMENTS is not helping the world and is a waste of time at a minimum but in reality it's just pushing the scale towards misery instead. Absolutely horrible stuff and just makes me feel the world has a long way to go if these people are the self styled "good guys" and "internet police".

Bullies are never excusable or admirable. If someone has mental problems as you suggested in your post then this behavior is still not justified and in many ways is simply even more cruel and unreasonable. I've known many people with various mental difficulties and I NEVER bullied or took advantage of it, nor did I ever feel the desire or would consider it a pleasure as these people seem to do. It sickens me even thinking someone would do such a thing and pretend it's justified or holy somehow.
