Aim first jump before starting level please

I'd like to be able to aim my first jump before the timer starts. The timer shouldn't start until I hit A. Right now, it feels too random whether you get the perfect angle and hit the jump button just at the moment of respawn. My inability to see what I'm about to do makes the game unfair.
