Quick guide for setting custom resolutions
You may have noticed a cap of 1080p in the launcher. There's an easy way around this.

*Just hit Windowkey+R and type 'regedit' (without the 's) into the window. This will open open up the registry editor.

*Search for KoeiTecmo

*Select under it on the left folder viewer Nights of Azure

*Select settings in that folder

*In the right panel, you'll see five or six listings.

*Right click the third one, 'device', and select modify from the menu.

*Under values, you'll probably see a string of numbers like "1920,1080,60,87"
The first two digits are your resolution, change them to what you like (though I have not tested widescreen options). Mine is now "2560,1440,60,87"

Save and quit, and you're done. The game will run in that resolution now.

Also guessing that the third digit is its refresh, so maybe changing that will let us get higher framerates working without affecting item pickups? Haven't tried yet though.

(Thanks to the neogaff poster who figured it out.)

I noticed if you set higher resolution than your monitor it will downsample.

It seems to look blurry for me after I set it to the higher resolution.. I know at least the steam UI is being rendered at 4k.. but it doesn't seem like the game is, even if you set it in the registry.

The blur is probably because of dof is on. There is a setting to turn it off
Amarah 7 Feb, 2017 @ 5:54am
yeah.. I think the dof is only designed for their supported resolutions.. so it looks wrong when you set it higher. It didn't look like this in 1080p.

would be nice if someone made some kind of custom launcher or something like that less technical people

I don't disageree with you, but because of how niche the game is, I doubt it'll happen. But as long as you double check what you're editing in the registry it's very simple.

You should put this in the guide section :)

Was surprised you had to head to regedit with the game whereas the sophie atelier sold in bundle does have proper support for the higher modern resolutions. So hopeing they put a wrong build of the game up to steam for this game.

If you do perhaps make a note people should turn of DOF when setting custom resolution.

Someone tried this with an ultrawide monitor? Im guessing it will most likely be stretched anyway but meh.

Might try myself i dunno.

Thanks for the hint, I might do that when I'm back home and simply provide some .reg files, so people don't have to mess with regedit.

EDIT:
Done ;)

What is the max resolution you can get? I currently have it with 3840x2160p but I'm not sure if you can go even further, I've a GeForce GTX 960.

Updated from a GTX580 to GTX1070 lately and got 4320p running fine.
8640p is "running" but not playable xD ..unless you like a slideshow.
In the end I stayed with UHD+ as it had the best results for me after downsampling.

Does someone know if there's any other game you can improve the resolution this way or another besides Nights of Azure?

@Clousephinat: I'd guess you could search trough http://www.widescreengaming.net/wiki/Main_Page and neogaf[www.neogaf.com] to find some games that have simple screen resolution fixes (regedit, ini, ...)

This is ok for windowed mode, but not for full screen mode. in full screen mode the display is stretched & the aspect ratio is incorrect.
