My best game ever was with an Herbalist, Woodcutter, and Hunter. I had lightning weapons on the hunter and herbalist, and a two handed hammer on the woodcutter. My Hunter had the Golden Hourglass and the +6 awareness necklace (with complete top notch awareness equipment on. My Herbalist had the Liches crown (At the Night Market I'm 90% sure this is what it was called, but not entirely sure its Liche's something for sure), (with complete top notch intelligence equipment), as well as a necklace and an artifact (don't remember). Woodcutter had top notch strength equipment as well as the 50% against Humanoid noose item (that I don't think exists since the recent update not for sure though), and the strength item. Going into the Final Dungeon all my characters had 2 Godsbeards (except the Herbalist who had three) and two golden roots. I beat the game on Normal with this set up. Still haven't figured out how to beat hardcore. :(

Busker , Hunter Minstrel has been my go to successfull party . It gives you 70+ in every stat to start ,helps lower focus use for tests. My Busker as a strength melee worked well. The minstrel with evil lute helped interupts happen often. I started the end tower with 3 godsbeard each and one full heal herb each aquired by trading in prism, fish. I did the final optional quest so the tower mobs did only basic damage to me

Just wondering if you guys are using a tank to taunt for some or most of the game. I have always used one, and wonder if it's possible to win without a taunter.

Herbalist, Trapper and Blacksmith worked very good for me

It is totally possible to beat it without a tank in fact I would recommend not using taunt to often most of the time dealing damage is better in the long run. However, taunt is nice to have in a desperate situation. I also used it a decent amount during the beginning of the 3rd mission set. Typically because my equipment has not caught up to the status quo. (The Mummies hurt so bad) That being said on my best runs I really have not used taunt at all.

Wow, not using taunt at all would require some serious DPS and fast leveling. If you are above the level curve and can kill mobs quickly, who needs to taunt? I just don't have that setup very often. Maybe I need to up my leveling speed.
Do you give your entire team tank gear? How do you prevent your herbalist from getting mauled?

its funny my best team that i made it the farthest was the starting team. blacksmith/hunter/scholar.

Mine has been Woodcutter, Trapper who I think is hands down better then the Hunter, Herbalist. The Hunter, Busker, Scholar, are pretty far behind the other 5 classes IMHO.

Taunt is very, very effective with another rare in game consumable.
