Not exactly too thrilled with using the same core gameplay as I Am Setsuna.
Recycling Chrono Trigger's gameplay in I Am Setsuna is fine since it proves CT's combat mechanic has aged well but that doesn't mean it should be in every Tokyo RPG Factory's game. This reeks of laziness. I love you SE and your games but I'm not stupid enough to buy the same game twice. If I want to play CT, I'd go and play CT.

Don't buy, simple like that.

Just because SE publishes it doesn't mean they invest as much money into TKRGF as for their FF development teams.

I quite like these games and after I saw the gameplay @ the E3 presentation I decided to buy it. Altough will probably in a sale.

Will be too busy with Stormblood, Destiny 2 and possible Anthem too so no point to get it directly.

Except IAS core mechanics are nothing like CT. lol
It's an rpg, there's millions of rpg's with the same "core".
Go play CT and stop complaining here..to no one.
These games are a targeted demographic.
Sadly most of the snobs are on steam and are the ones who aren't going to buy it anyway.

Yeah, I clearly never played CT before to notice the similarity. I mean, it's not like IaS was marketed as a spiritual successor to CT or anything. That X-Strike combo? Clearly an original move that wasn't directly taken from CT (and CC).

Only a small fraction of that "millions" are successful, mostly because their core mechanics are refined and original to each game. The vast majority of that "millions" are mostly FF clones made with RPGMaker. Just browse any game with a RPGMaker tag, most of them are literally cheap clones of FF and DQ. None of these are special enough to be remembered simply because it literally uses the absolute same core as any FF game.

It's the internet, bud. I can say anything I want. Even when nobody is listening. At least you're listening.

A niche demographic, you mean. Fans of SE and their RPG. Make no mistake, we're no longer that 7 year old who pulled an all-nighter trying to beat FF VI in a single playthrough. I don't know about you but I'm old enough to think twice before putting my money on the table for a product. If the product doesn't look it's worth it price, then I'm not buying it.

I'm now convince you're a 12 year old who is trying wayyy to hard to sound smarter than you think. No offence, kid.

im probably as old as you, hopefully older because christ you are making me cringe, and i sh!tpost daily and i dont act as pretentious as you do. So much salt you would think you bathe in chlorine and eat sodium daily.
Wasting 100 hours of your life in fallout 4 and 400 hours in Skyrim, & still talking about having a seasoned taste in good games, thats hillarious stuff right there.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

CT was awesome, and a big reason as to why, was becuase the Battle System was awesome. There's too many cinematic RPGs out there with dumbed down systems, or A-RPGs... I miss the old ATB format. It's rarely done these days. I would have bought IAS, but yet it was just too dang short, I was hearing that it was sub-10 hours long for what, $20+? No thanks. If it had been another 25-30h long game like CT was, I would have paid that gladly.

This mentality is why there's so many Final Fantasy clones made with RPGMaker on steam.

Which is not exactly a bad thing, per se, as long as there's some effort put into them.

Skyborn, for example. RPGMaker? Yup. FF Clone? You could say that. A fun game? Absolutely. I have no regrets.

You sound delusional, dude. That's literally just one ~slightly~ above average RPGMaker game in a sea of bad RPGMaker games.

But to stay on topic, Lost Sphere is as low effort of a JRPG as Tokyo RPG Factory can make without spending too much time and money on developing. It literally depends on fans nostalgia to sell. I already bought and finished IaS but was disappointed with the overall experience. So if Lost Sphere is another CT clone like IaS, I'm not gonna bother buying it. If I want to play CT, I'd go play CT.

I was naming one example, and everybody has their own opinions.

Maybe I'm not as picky? *shrug* If you don't like this game, that's fine. I'm sure there's plenty of nostalgic people like me who miss the SNES JRPG days, who wish they made games like that these days instead of games like FF13, FF15, etc.

My only concern is how long the game is. If it's only 10 hours long, then yeah, I'm definitely not spending $40 on it lol. But if it's 25+ then I might.

I care more about the story than "INNOVATIVE GAMEPLAY" (aka, 'let's reinvent the wheel' like SE used to do with their FF games every time a new FF came out after 7). If the gameplay is a tried-and-true system such that CT has, then it's good enough for me. I'm more there for the story and the sights.

But again, my main concern is length.

You're talking to a guy who would play a romhack of DW4 if it was written well and had a good plot.

You're also talking to a guy who still plays the old classics like BoF1-3, FF4, FF6, SoM, etc.
