Like you mentioned, A2 is both used to individual action and a survivor. Just before the machines in Pascal's village go berserk she seemed to be warming up to them and seeing there's some good in the world after all. Once she realizes the war is finally over with the machines leaving for the moon, she'll probably work with the remaining androids in making the world a less hostile place for both androids and any friendly machines that got left behind. As for whether hostile machines still exist with the network and N1 gone... who knows? Some will be idle, some will be capable of independent thought like Pascal. The latter could keep up fighting, but without the network they shouldn't be an organized threat.
2B and 9S should be fine. 9S did go off the deep end but in his final moments in ending D, he got himself together after Adam's words. Losing 2B was the trigger to his descent into madness, so being in a new, well-mantained body and her presence should fix most of his issues. His vendetta against A2 should also be rendered meaningless over 2B's survival and I can't see her stick around them anyway.
2B's Executioner days should be well behind her. Endings A and B show her being consumed by remorse and actually feeling relief at 9S's eventual survival. In her short path through route C she shows genuine affection for him (even tries to protect him from the Yorha in the flight units), so I think her last request to A2 was heartfelt. She also finally calls him Nines, for what it's worth. And it's her memories that make A2 hesitate in the end and give 9S an opening to kill her, so I'd say she'll be fine too.
They're on their own now, but they're not alone. They can choose and work towards whatever future they like. They don't have a purpose anymore, but they can choose to find a new one.
In short, they're free.
u dont know how much of the machine netword is left on earth. my guess is there is enough left to control the machines and they continue their war with the androids.
also u never saw the android command and if losing yorha even matters to them. (remember that older yorha models were seen as a disposable resource to them). they might just make another "yorha" to start a war with the machines again.
the main characters will just be hunted down by newer android models or be pulled back into the endless war between the machine network and android command.
The war continues.
Why am I getting a "Planet of the Apes" vibe out of this outcome?
That's a connection I hadn't thought of. The reference was to the character in Drakengard 3.
>A2 surely wishes to stick with Anemone, and after sharing memories with 2B, I'm sure they'll have formed a sort of bond.
>2B's directives were to eradicate machines and 9S when required, and both have no meaning anymore, now that the machine network and project YoRHa are no more.
>9S really lost it, but in both Endings C and D we see either him being saved/cured by A2, or "leaving" with Adam and Eve, but even if we wish to follow from Ending D instead of C, 92 still says that he has no reason to hate machines and wonders if he ever did. So: No enemy machines, no YoRHa to take revenge on, and ends up reunited with 2B = no reason why he wouldn't find stick with 2B (whom he loves) and A2 (who ultimately carried 2B's memories and is why she survived)
So that's why I'm sure they stick together to help the resistance rebuild and prosper for whatever the future awaits for them.
>>>>>On the other hand:
>Both in Endings C and D, the Tower/Ark is destroyed (Nevermind the "Machine Memories" since they make it clear they'll never return to Earth) and the Machine Network as we know it ceases to exist. Leaving all remaining machines free of their directives of eradicating the Androids, therefore gaining free will and probably following the same path of the other machine independent groups, like the ones in The Forest Kingdom and Pascal's Village (minus the tragedies, of course).
All of this, that is, until roughly a few centuries in the future, since we know (According to the Emil Heads weapon story) that the machine network has managed to rebuild itself and regain gravity-controlling technology. New machines could be created, and the existing independent ones could be once again forced to join the network and therefore be controlled (or simply subdued or erased, which hopefully our heroes will fight to prevent. Seeing how the network fought itself over destroying the Androids or not in A2's route, we know there's still chance for conflict even though the Machine Network that left in the Arc moved on from fighting the Androids/Humanity)
>Two more important bits of data: #1: The Human Data Storage Facility on the moon (NOT to be confused with the Communications Server made to fool androids with false transmissions) remains intact with data about Humanity, Project Gestalt, Genetic Data of Gestalts and Structural data of Replicants, among a lot of other things. Gravity-controlling tech could enable Machines (Or Androids, if they seize it) to reach the moon once again and retrieve said data. In the case of Androids, this would be essential if they desired to restore the Replicant System with the Gestalts' data, or try something new. If more Devola and Popola android pairs were to be found, it could be possible to restore the Replicant system (which would obviously benefit both parties after all)
And lastly, #2: Remember that the YoRHa Project was just that: A project. Just like A2 was an experimental android to gather data for the YoRHa project, this in turn was also a step towards the next generation of androids (Which is why any trace of YoRHa/The Bunker was meant to be erased, just like A2 and her team) and just like we never knew precisely how Devola and Popola arranged new "births" for Replicants in the first NieR since there was a whole system behind it unknown to everyone else, we also don't know exactly who or what is in charge of that new generation of androids, but we know it/they exist somewhere else.
So, to summarize: A2, 2B and 9S stick together alongside the resistance in order to rebuild, until centuries in the future, the machine network restores itself, 2B meets an Emil once again, and.. Something happens. And during that time, or before that, the next-gen Androids show up. How that will affect the heroes, I don't know. But they could always blend in within the Resistance, so. A lot of things could Happen.
2B VA is cute.
A2,2B and 9S did survived, but only 2B and A2 recovered their memories while 9S lost his
They talked about this in the NieR concert
