Linux and Mac versions are possible in the future but for the next weeks there are no plannes to start working on them as resources are bound to more content updates. If time and resources are available I'll sure sort out the possibilities of a Linux and Mac version.
I have no real news so far but Linux is on my track. I have already done a bit of work to it but not to much. As soon as the Editor is released if have some more time and resources left.
I will try and build a straight forward linux build (if possible) in the upcoming weeks and upload it to a beta branch for public testing.
But there will be some downsights: As I'm a single person maintaining 2 or 3 versions (Windows, Linux and possible Mac) is hardly possible. So a Linux version will probably lack behind in updates as the main focus will still be the Windows version.
So I'm looking forward to the first Linux version you make availlable!.
Please keep us updated on this!
I was able to build a basic test version for Linux, but I wasn't able to build a full version right now due to extrem long compile times.
This is what's going on:
I'm using Unreal Engine 4 Cross Compile which allows me to build a Linux version from a Windows System. I'm using this because I have to the time for a full linux build to run right now. As soon as I have a full linux build finished, I'll upload it to Steam for public testing.
But there are some limitations due to the fact that cross compile won't work with Engine Plugins:
I'll keep you updated on when the build is online.
Do you think there could be a solution for the DLCs one day?
Either I'll programm a seperat launcher dealing with the DLC check on Linux or try to figure out a way to code it into the game. There will be a solution, but right now I'm focusing on getting the base game running on Linux.
Thanks again for the good news!
It's my job to listen to the community and try to fulfill all (of reasonable) wishes. Or at least I think it's my job.
Just another short update: I was able to build the full version now. Took ~4h to build it, Windows version is build in ~20min. The compile log showed some error with a river material for Vulkan API. It's possible that this material get's replaced by a default material. But as this material is only used in a single mission, I'm not going to recomplile it another 4h for now and start uploading to Steam tomorrow.
If some players can confirm that the game is playable, I'll start fixing the Material.
Please remember this is a early test build and I don't have much experience with this entire progress right now, so please report everything that is not working correctly ore showing something wrong.
