Don't be fool by the negative reviews you would see later on.
Even though the lastest version RPGMaker is MV, you still get use VX materials as MV materials as long as you have bought this version.
My suggestion is to treat this old RPGMaker as a resource pack and when there is a good discount, get it before the discount ends.

Now that RPG Maker VX Ace and MV are available, there's no reason to buy RPG Maker VX. And certainly not at more than 30 euros. Even RPG Maker XP is more furnished.

I spent thousands of hours on VX before it came on Steam, so believe me when I say that this software is not that good.

I started making a game on VX in 2011. VX Ace wasn't released yet.
And I should have switched to VX Ace a long time ago. Instead of that, I stuck with VX because I was too lazy to port my game to VX Ace. And damn do I regret it.

VX is very limited. There's not much things you can do but very simple RPG, unless you want to put thousands of hours of hard work on a more complex system. A system that is easily done on VX Ace or MV.

More over, the scripts available for VX are not as good as VX Ace's or MV. And they are few in numbers.

So no, there's no reason to recommend RPG Maker VX. Get RPG Maker MV when it's on sale !

With this, I can finally craft my cookie-cutter Earthbound-inspired indie RPG about depression.

This RPG Maker is a big deal, especially if you're new in the RPG Maker Series. Here you can create anything simple like probably a child would and also that's a good opportunity to learn about the tiles, since this one is very hard to understand, at least for me.

To tell the truth this program was my first RPG Maker that i ever touch, but the same time this is very old and it's not recommended buy if you already know how to do the things in the program. Since RPG Maker VX was released almost 1 year before VX Ace came out, yeah it's expected to not find almost any scrpit out there, almost none, so be aware of that.

But yeah, like i said before, this software is very good when while you're learning how to use the program properly... But here some things that you can do and can't do:


- Modify Tiles (I mean you can put some extra tiles, but they will just replace the existing ones)
- Change Resolution (For especific reasons the program just accept 640x480, if you're searching for Full HD just go and buy RPG Maker MV already - Also available on Steam :] )


- Basically everything you can do on RPG Maker VX Ace, but that one of course is more complete than this one...

P.S.: I was testing some scrpits here and for some reasons sometimes works and sometimes doesn't and i dunno the reason, probably is because the memory itself is very limited, but again, if you want to do something very complex, go on and buy VX Ace, since it's based in the same language programming.

Just buy this if you're new or have old projects to access like i have, if you aren't included in these 2 situations i don't recommend to take a look...

Alright, let's not beat around the bush.
This maker is terrible. It's limited and is overshadowed by RPG maker VX ACE entirely.
Whenever I try to find something for VX, let's just say... a few notable scripts, it's ACEs scripts that pop up instead. And that's due to Ace being superiorly better anyway, why would you even give this maker your time of day.
There's barely anyone using this engine anymore, so i'm surprised they put this up on steam.

Fact is: ACE is better. Buy ACE instead, I swear m8 if you don't buy ACE instead I will scorn you!

Edit: I know... 450 hours. BUT HEAR ME OUT! It's still not worth it! Not EVEN for the resources, which VX Ace ALSO almost includes all of VXs stuff, anyway!

A really cool engine to make small rpg games. It offers a lot of stuff to begin with and you can create much more. You can also share your game to your friends and overall it's one of the best engines for making small 2D games like in the good old days in 2000 - 2010 :)

I've had this for a while now, I never thought I would be able to make a game ever, I've tried with previous engines, but that was when I was way younger. RPG Maker VX is perfect for what I am aiming to achieve/make!
