Completed game a while back...but Steam didnt keep my saves?

A few days ago, my not-too-old PC crashed and burned. Had to wipe it clean, and re-install everything (Win 7 and updates, AMD drivers,Steam,etc etc). I'm in the process of re-installing a few of my favorite games (from among the 40 or so I had installed before the crash).
Through Steam, I re-installed DE:LE, and thought it strange that Steam didnt ask whether or not I wanted to get saves from the cloud (or however they're saved). Upon starting DE:LE I notice it's at the beginning of the game, and the other "chapter boxes" are not able to be activated...it thinks I want to play the game from scratch.
I finished the game months ago, and was always able to re-visit chapters 1 through 4 at will when starting up the game.
Suggestions?
Editef to add: several other Steam games I re-installed kept the saves I had accumulated (or when I had finished the games in question). I'm wondering why this game did NOT do that.

Didn't think I'd get an answer here, but if anyone has a downloadable saved game where all four chapters are active, that's be great.
