Anyone walk or run in the game?
I tend to speed crouch or slow crouch, or I'm still. Results are much better. Is it ever okay to walk (or even run), like until you find tracks, or do you scare too much away?

+ 1, sometimes running around to get a warning call on something then quickly hide, then quickly use caller will work

I usually use the camera in zoomed mode when I run/walk. That way you can spot animals that spook w/o giving a warning call. Then stop, duck and lure them back. Sometimes you spot them even before they spook.

On an unrelated note: In my opinion the camera is superior to the binos due to the larger FOV (unless you need to determine the range). Also saves weight in backpack.

I often have a destination planned out via the map and a way-point. Initially I'll run for a bit, especially if it is some distance, but I will eventually slow down to a walk and listen for calls. Once I'm in hunting mode I'm crouch walking or crouch jogging.

I run almost exclusively when I have little time to play and I am only uncovering an area on the map. Otherwise I usually walk. This way I can see further ahead of me, over bushes and such. I've seen many animals by walking around that I would have missed if I were crouching, especially animals that were resting. I would spot only the head, ears, or antlers. If I were crouched I wouldn't have and would have walked just past it. But when vegetation is obstructing my view too much, which is pretty much most of the time in the Taiga, I then speed crouch or move normally in crouch. I guess running often is an option only for those hunting with callers.

I too spend most of my time in a crouch and it has it's benefits. I rarely walk and never ever never run. I tend to find larger/higher scoring animals that way. When I do walk it's not in brush or forested areas. More tall grassy areas, those that have taller bushes/shrubs I can quickly hide in or moving across strawfileds/short grass fields. Evenso, I generally hide and do two calling sequences with negative results before I rise up and walk across those areas. I'm retired and have all the time in the world to play this game AND I am a very patient hunter.

Spend all my day walking, only crouch when I get a warning call.
If I need to go fast I just use an ATV, running is too slow and too noisy.
The only time I'd run is right at the end of my hunting session to pick-up scattered animals around me... And even for that I just prefer to have an ATV nearby if I hunt in a very wide region like a great lake or so, since I knew where the animals dropped.

They should make two walking speeds though. The normal one is fast enough but its so damn noisy. I don't care for going fast in bushes, I just want to see over them.

you are doing it right my friend, hunt as if the animals are hunting you, and you wont miss anything. i only walk when i am leaving camp and crouch when i hit the treeline.
these guys that run, bless em but they only pick up on the animals that give warning calls, how about the two dozen they didnt see that ran away silently, you and i would have had them. keep moving like your life depended on it and you will harvest lots of game.

Depends on what you are hunting for. If you are specifically looking for high Gold or Diamond animals, running or even walking will spook them off before you even know they were there.

Gangrene uses a similar tactic as myself. I have a destination point in mind, and begin to walk to it, once I hit a certain point I crouch the rest of the way. Your character is soooo damn loud when you walk, things are spooked at great distances.

I have a hotkey setup on my mouse that makes me instantly flop to the ground (go prone). I use that when I am walking and hear an animal's footstep. If you are lucky, you can flop, and let them calm down before they run. However, Diamond animals usually don't and will run. But at least you will have tracks to track them slowly down.

you got it Theone, keep it slow and aware to everything around you.....owe you and kevinork both some cold beers back at camp.
I run everywhere and when I see an animal (300-400 yards out if I see it) I will stop, crouch or prone if possible, and immediately take a shot. I don't wait to get closer for a better shot, doing so just usually ends up a missed opportunity.

I mostly run. On any map. And this does not bother me to mine diamonds. On the contrary, most likely only helps. Or rather, it increases the number of diamonds per unit of time. If the card is open, then you need to know the approximate distance before the animal can feel you. If the card is closed, mostly guided by the tracks. When I find a suitable trail, I begin to act more imperceptibly.
