Animal spawn at higher levels
Other than the other night’s chance meeting of a herd of 30+ elk, resting with about 8 moose, (still a bit miffed about the game crashing before I got the rewards) I’ve seen a major drop in the number of animals for over a week now. A truly significant drop.

Not only are my favorite hunting spots offering up nothing (and I’m aware of hunting pressure), but I’ve seriously RUN through the woods for in-game MILES, spooking nothing.

Because of this, the past 3 days I’ve “played” at other things: climbing mountains, visiting the few points I’ve not been to, and messing around with freezing up animals at the outpost (there are always a few animals that call when you drop into an outpost). The vast majority of my kills have been those few deer/foxes.

I can remember going out to the big RR bridge and seeing what looked like Noah’s Ark had burst open onto the land, but whenever I go back now (even when I crawl for 30 minutes on my belly to make sure I don’t spook anything), it’s 100% empty (any time of day).

My Calburn spot is dry – And I once had to close the game and walk away because one night I was non-stop killing there. And NONE of the stands have been offering up anything. Even the lowlands below Kraken are barren. It’s supposed to be the “home of the bear population”, but I’m not seeing anything but a few solitary whitetail does.

All I can think of is that I’ve reached a higher level than before (32). I do know that I noticed significant changes set off by things in the past (i.e. the number of elk/moose rose exponentially once I purchased the 7mm and left the 243 behind (I skipped the 270).

What gives? Anyone else have major in-game dry spells like this? Scents are doing nothing - calls are doing nothing - I'm waiting for the guy to pop up and say, "There SHOULDN'T be tracks around here anywhere."

Same here. Many many areas with no animals or tracks. In real life, a animal reserve will have an abudance of tracks and animals throughout.
Here is as well. On Hirschfelden map. There are just huge regions on the map with animal populations so sparse, no wonder there is so much greenery with no animals to eat it. I mean it is a hunting game. Put some meat in there. Not like arcade, but to have it equally distributed on the map to avoid this wandering for hours with nothing showing up, while in other regions (e.g. Petershain lake cabin) you always find something. Or if there are animals and they ALWAYS run away before spot them, then have them make more calls. Something. I mean I crawl on 2 noise bars over the map like some f'**ing idiot with my squeaky toy, camera on zoom looking around for half an hour with no f***ing animal nowhere within miles. Something is seriously off with that animal spawning script, at least on Hirschfelde map. Damn that early access junk. Damn it! Damn it! HAHA

Ive noticed the same thing and im currently at lvl 47, but I would'nt conclude that there has been any changes at all actually.

I think the amount of animals spawned is supposed to vary a lot between sessions, both the total amount on the map aswell as specie and regional distribution.

That's what it is for me on the other side. I only play Hirschfelden on multi-player with my best friend, and I've only done that twice (I'm in China, he's in the US). So I'm thinking I might run over there a few times and see if it's across the board for me.

I was thinking "Was there a limited population to begin with, and I'm doing nothing but thinning the herd?" It's gotten that bad.

Today was a bit better, two bear, two elk and a moose, but that's still extremely low for a day of hunting on this game. If the game had always been like this I wouldn't think twice because normal hunting isn't so successfull, but I've been playing with tons of animals from the beginning.

I am lvl 40 and have noticed the same thing on single player, so I mostly play multiplayer with random newbies (their maps have critters)... and go kill all the critters. If I get the $0 reward, I exit and go find another newbie multiplayer. :)

One more thing is that I didn't experience this when patch 1.5 came, it was not until two days ago I started to notice, so the question is, do they change things outside of patches? Because I find it extremely far fetched that they would have implemented that the amount of animals decreases with the higher your level.

Good question and good point. What level are you?

Or we are all simply having an extremely coincidental dry spell based on their generator.

I've haven't stopped playing since I posted this (with the occasional restroom break) and I have not killed anything in over an hour (back when I killed those I wrote about in my last comment an hour ago. That's messed up.

And are any of you having another issue I seem to be having: A single doe that stays just out of sight and will not shut up - regardless of what call/scent you use. This is another all day/every day thing that has been going on for the past few days. You wouldn’t believe the story I have about the first time it happened – I found that one single doe was following me around (seriously).
Hold on! In the save settings there is the animal population file. I do copies of my savegames regularly and have like 10 of them by now. The animal population file gets smaller with more progress! It starts somewhat around 119kb (I have only touched Hirschfelde map so far). Is there really just one fixed amount of animals on each map and if you got them all then the map is cleaned of animals?

And there you have it - either planned obsolescence, planned preparation in chargine for something, or someone goofed.

BTW - where are the save games located?

Im lvl 47, and Ive played for 2 hours now and seen/heard the following:
1 male bear with crap trophy rating
4 female blacktails
1 female whitetail
2 female coyotes

If this is true its insane tbh...

Allthough I have been killing a lot of low level animals, perhaps Im closing in on a situation where its only the high ones left haha ;D

EDIT: My animal population file is 223kb so I dunno.. (Hosted MP server for 8 ppl)

I was just about to write that maybe it's just that we've reached our "running around shooting everything" limit, and now we have to "hunt" :D

have you tried to delete the animal_population file? when you restart the game it will create a new one and it has solved some troubles in other topics. try it.
I just hit 21 and the animals have turned down ALOT! Also I dont see blood trails any longer!
mc2941 Apr 11 @ 3:20pm
same here i though something was wrong with the game been walking all over the place maybe a roe deer thats it lvl 33 no bears no moose no elk wtf.
Right now I am level 57 and I kinda have noticed that after hunting one Map awhile it seems like there are fewer animals. When this happens I switch maps and hunt that one till it seems like there are fewer animals then switch again. This break seems to repopulate the map.
