Fortnight Discussion: Secrets and Easter Eggs
Adding secrets to Streets of Rogue hasn't been much of a priority for me up to this point. And frankly, I may end up not having the time to flesh out this aspect of the game as much as I'd like to before the planned 1.0 release next year. Though that's not to say it couldn't happen post-release.

Anyways, I'd like to hear your ideas for secret-y content and easter eggs. Not just the secrets themselves, but how to find them. Please try to keep it within the realm of "not exceedingly difficult to program or exceedingly art-heavy".

In references to other games, i feel like a reference to undertale would be cool. Maybe throw in a line for npcs who are annoyed to say something like "Get out before you have a bad time." Reference's could be made through npc's, such as an Npc that looks like Ash Ketchum from pokemon.
Do the same thing (to an degree) as minecraft, have an "Super Secret" Button, which if pressed would change the grafics to one of your favourite games (undertale, Doom, Call of duty, Etc.)

A secret floor that is dedicated to one secret. For example, there could be a secret floor that is dedicated to star wars, and some new star wars items if you feel like it.

This could tie back in to my older post about a mod coommunity. Mod's would work really well in this game.

One thing I've always liked about this game is that there are many ways to interact with objects and items and combine them that you might not expect. Some of the easter eggs could come from combining multiple items together to make some kind of secret item.

As an tribute to old Roguelikes this will fit pretty much:

In 1 randomly selected floor there would be some stairs under a certain grave in the graveyard(one that is just... a bit diferent from the other ones) when passed, youll end up in a classic medieval/magic dungeon full of zombies skeletons and maybe some other 2 characters.
Theres a lot of material in the actual game that could fit in the dungeon, like the book of scrifice... the diferent melee weapons... the zombies... the ghosts.. it will consist in 1 or 2 pretty dificult and trapy floors. If you manage to complete it, youll unlock 1 of 3 characters Warrior(Conan the barbarian style warrior) mage(something like merlin with a blue robe with stars) and a Rogue (like a drugdealer of somekind but colored black and with an indestructible dagger and a bow with limited arrows)

it may be too... art heavy maybe...?
Instead of saying "I have no way to tamper with it" when you try to do something to a box for cigarettes or a generator it should have everyone visible on the screen, as well as the player, shout "There's no time for that!" like the proffesor does in Pokemon when you try to use something you can't.

Maybe add the most generic easter egg and just have something silly happen when you input the konami code in front of or after using an arcade machine.

How about if you're a charismatic person like the bartender, there would be an extra 'how's it going' option when talking to generics. It would mostly give just goofy dialogue, but also sometimes point to secret treasure or hidden rooms.

One NPC crossing the map from the exit elevator to the bottom elevator. You only have one chance to talk to him to get a special item or mission.

i think hostile npc could say some lines while fighting against the player which may be a reference to something

maybe getting a very secret item by doing a set of very specific things like destroying 2 trash cans killing 5 cops and then interact with the exit elevator until a secret line appears and the item spawns

One secret/easter egg that would be fun to see is a super rare scientist NPC variant that, when annoyed enough to turn hostile, takes a potion that transforms them into an Incredible Bulk.

The potion would trigger most if not all of the status effects seen with the Critter Upper, Giantizer, Rage Posion, and Steriods. It probably wouldn't work to make them turn green due to copyright issues. Maybe sell it as a Dr. Jekyl/Mr. Hyde type NPC.

It would make intruding upon scientific research labs a lot more risk/reward than they are at the moment.

Idea: Sometimes you can interact with a chair and then it says some chair related pun.

If you kill all of the members of your gang on a floor (if playing as a gang member) you get something for "betraying your colors."

Was suprised there was no secret rooms when I first ran through the normal map boundaries with giant pills. Could also put some loot rooms with a chance to spawn in industrial, along the farther reaches of the mine cart tracks.
