Fortnight Discussion: Possible Supporter’s Edition of the game
I’ve taken note that some small developers have been releasing non-essential extra content as DLC for their games. Notably, Tom Francis of Gunpoint and Heat Signature has released “Supporter’s Edition” content, which are comprised of early builds of his games and video developer’s commentaries.

I’d like to do something similar with Streets of Rogue: Provide a bunch of early builds of the game (and I do have a lot of them, dating back to 2014 before I was even using the Unity engine), along with developer’s commentary, a sort of narrative journey explaining the game’s origins, progress, and how it came to be what it is today.

This would probably be sold at about $5 USD (obviously less when the game goes on sale), and would be released alongside the game’s 1.0 release later this year.

Is this something people would be interested in? Are there any particular subjects you’d like me to cover in my commentary? Is there anything else you think I should add to the DLC aside from what I’ve described above?

TO BE CLEAR: This DLC would not include anything that would affect the game in any way. This is meant to be a set of completely non-essential “DVD Extras” for fans of the game

It would be a pretty good Idea, considering the fact that both new players would want to see what the game was like, and players who've supported this game for a long time can get some nostalgia. As for the other two questions of topics and other DLC, I don't have many Ideas on those. I'm sure that the rest of the community could give their input regarding those subjects.
Top Hat and monocle you can put on any character.

And stylish headphones for people who bought the soundtrack.
yeah just some cometics for the characters or skins for set npcs sounds right to me, just something neat and cool to show that you supported the game (ya know other then buying it while its in alpha like now)
1. Maybe some cosmetics

2. Possibly have NPCs have a VERY small chance to thank the player for buying th DLC

It's kind of a win-win addition. If you don't buy it, you won't really lose anything.
Yeah I would be interested in buying it.
Sounds good, especially the commentary, I'm always a sucker for behind the scenes information.

If you make it cosmetics, you would have to enable people with the cosmetics to play with people without the cosmetics, or split the community. If you do allow people with the cosmetics to play with people without the cosmetics, it will kinda have it so some people have more exclusive, and thus in a way better cosmetics. This could be fair enough, as it would show who supported the game more, and thus also really encourage people to get it (Some people just love cosmetics), but on the other hand, I think this is going against the idea of a supporters edition. The main point of this edition should be to support the game, not for some superiority in cosmetics.

I'd think just having a custom UI would be enough, like give some things gold borders or something. A game on android, namely Pixel dungeon, had this as it's only source of funding (no ads or purchases apart from it), and I still feel it was incentive enough, but that might just be me

Would love to throw some extra money your way anyways. Not that I have money to waste, but I really love what you're doing

Folks, to reiterate:

TO BE CLEAR: This DLC would not include anything that would affect the game in any way. This is meant to be a set of completely non-essential “DVD Extras” for fans of the game

This means no "custom outfits" or anything like that.

Some sort of digital artbook?

I love this things although they might be hard to create and not needed when you are planning to provide early builds of the game.
i like to read the idea behind the game i like and don't mind pay an extra for it (as it is also give a solid reason to support the dev)

example of what i used to read:

spelunky https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/26152638-spelunky

a dark room https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/29975296-surviving-the-app-store

as for content.. anything is fine really (i know i just list a full book but you don't intend to go that far, especially when it's a mixed media between commentary, old game build, and the game tales)

i also just bought this on summer sale but didn't finish it yet (sanctuary rpg) https://store.steampowered.com/app/683610/SanctuaryRPG_Black_Edition__Rogue_Potato_Collection/

Cosmetics are fine enough.
Personally I've not been much of a fan for this sort of stuff. Imo it seems more or less redundant, kinda like video game OST DLC, I can just go on YouTube if I really want to know...mostly cuz it saves me 5 bucks for something I'd likely only use once.

That's just my two cents, kinda helps shine some light on the yes to no ratio I guess.
I would rather if you took time and made a dlc adding a whole new set of floors and items, maybe with a theme? Over and Over for prices like 8.99 EUR

Idk, I hate the idea of this stuff when the game isn't released yet, it makes me question, why the hell did you have to make me spend 10.52 or so to purchase the game I already payed for. Sure if he wants to he can later after 1.0, I could live with that.

Personally though, updating the game when you go to add new content honestly makes me appreciate the game more. I'd also be fine if you were to make a version of the game that drastically changes playstyle (ex. Don't Starve adding Reign of Giants and Shipwrecked) and sell that as DLC. Then I don't really feel I'm getting jacked so much as it is "Hey, here's some extra goodies that don't pertain to the game drastically but it offers more that you might want"
