Vehicles, wheels and steering
I have for the past 3 days been building and breaking down a simple vehicle in survival mode because I can not get the wheels to steer or drive.
When it is up on the jack all 4 wheels turn but dont drive. Once I drop the vehicle the rear right wheel steers and drives but none of the others do.
I have tried one battery to all 4 wheels, 2 batteries to all 4 wheels, one battery per wheel and finally 2 batteries per wheel.
I set the wheels to all rotate in the same direction, power all the wheels (connected as mentioned above), I set the steering correctly and the speed of drive all set to normal. Even thought it might be the suspension so set them all to normal deflection. The build is exactly as described in the f5 menu.
I can get exactly the same build to work in construction but not survival.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Is your jack on a player block (base pad) if so build on the ground/grass using the jack, had a similar problem and this fixed it for me, good luck, hermit out. :wololo::rf:
You dont want all wheels to turn in the same direction, otherwise it wont turn. You want either the front to turn only, or the front and back to turn in oposite directions.
Try building as hashshashin says on the ground. It might think the cockpit is part of the base due to it being conected.

Also, make sure the vehicle isnt stuck in the ground at all

Thanks Hashshashin for helping out. We know about this one and will be fixed in the update next week.

Many thanks for the replies, Will give building on the ground a go. Best suggestion I've seen so far. Sort of makes sense that if I build on the base it would see it as part of it. Will give it another go. Other than this, absolutely lovin the game.

Just tried a build on the ground and all is well with the world. Many thanks Hashshashin

Not sure if right thread, but i didn't have much problems with making the vehicle work. figured the steering and distance quickly and headed east (always to the east... anyone?). so the issue i'm having with vehicle mechanis (and i do believe it's known, but just in case) is that the wheel as a torque source either has next to no power at all, or no grip at all. So i landed in a ditch somewhere (gofigure, looking at the scenery and driving w/o brain) and spend about 40 mins trying to dig the thing out and no matter how long i flatten the terrain around it, the thing didn't want to bulge over smallest spikes.
i'd suggest more grip, some vehicle flip tool, some method to move the thing slightly with player... something, no idea, just to get us out of a sticky situation, some kinds of terrain flattening tool function and more power for lower speed tire setting.
Otherwise great game, has tons of potential, just matter of more content, AI and polishing.
cheers

To my shame I did the same thing, drove into a ravine with water at the bottom.
Being a stuborn/determined bloke I tried to level a ramp down to the vehicle but just like you the slightest bump and forward motion halted. Went back to my base and built enough items to add 2 more wheels and power, only to return to my vehicle and see it vanish in front of my eyes as the game auto saved.
On the bright side, digging it out yielded enough materials to build a second vehicle with 6 wheels and 2 power cells per wheel, placed over the centre line of the wheels, directly above them. seems to help with torque and grip. Also setting the rotaion speed to slow might help (slower speed higher torque?), not tried it yet.
Really need the spot light to migrate from construction mode to survival asap, driving at night is some scarey experience.

Haven't messed around in the construction mode yet, but definitely agree, we need some vehicle lights. Right now im stuck using the wall light on my vehicle.

Yeh thought I would be safe using wall lights, that way you see the hole just before you dive in. I can confirm the vehicle is still usable under water, and is a bolt hole when your lungs start to burst. Just managed to get the vehicle out of the water when the autosave took pitty and snatched it away. :)
