Game Crash Fixes (Windows 10 Users Read This)
If you look through the discussions, you may see reports of the game crashing or not even starting. In some cases the users have not responded to my efforts to help them, but in every case where the user actually sought help, we have been able to get the game up and running. It seems to effect Windows 10 users more than others. Windows 10 is not officially supported by the game engine used for Star Explorers, but it does work in most cases.

It should be noted, that most users do not actually experience any trouble running the game. In those cases where they have, a few of them were bugs or errors with the game, which I was able to correct from my end.

In some cases, the problem was with how the game interacted with the users system. The most common example being the computer's DEP settings.

Here is the way to fix this issue:
Check how the DEP (data execution prevention) is set in your Windows configuration. Go to My Computer / Properties / Advanced / Performance / Settings / Data Execution Prevention, and make sure that it's in its default setting ("For essential Windows programs and services only"). A wrong DEP setting prevents on-the-fly compiling lite-C or C-Script source code.

Problem with protected folders:
Another issue that can occur is that Windows prevents the game from writing into the "Program Files" folder. This can be resolved by re-installing the game into a different folder on your computer. If you install it somewhere in "My Documents" or a similar folder, then this issue will not happen. This seems to effect Windows 10 users the most.

I cannot guarantee that these will work in every situation or configuration, but if you do experience trouble running the game, please feel free to reach out to me with your problem. I will do everything in my power to help you get things running.

Also, if you have not encountered any problems running the game, and if you are enjoying the game, feel free to write a nice review, or comment here on the Community Hub. It helps to hear from the majority of people who have not experienced trouble with the game.

Try Free Demo First:
If you are concerned whether your computer will run Star Explorers, try the free demo for Anomalies, another game I made in the same engine

The latest (3.0) version of Star Explorers has been modified to write all user generated data, like save game files and star chart info, into the user's AppData/Local file, so the second issue about write protection should no longer be a problem.

for win10 to find the DEP, right click on start button and select "system". Then on the right side of that screen click on "system info". The advanced settings link will be on the left.

Thanks! Also, the newest "testing" version of Star Explorers is using the A8 engine, which does not seem to have the DEP problem. I still plan to release version 4.0 some time soon. Hopefully by the end of the year, or early in 2020.
