Serious lag

Whenever I play l4d I have issues with serious lag even though all my settings are on low. When I first started playing it (on the same computer mind you) it was fine now it just doesn't want to do anything without freezing. Halp.

Well first, post you system specs. If you're PC doesn't have enough RAM or Video RAM, you may need to close all other programs running in the background before startung the game. This should help somewhat.

recently played left 4 dead and had so much lag that the game looked like it was playing in survival mode.

btw i snot only you , too much ppls got the same problem these days , and the servers are not so much most of them are local ones ... this depends a lot ...

I turn off all programs in the background already because my computer is old and cruddy. But if it's the servers it's not something I can fix. My boyfriend plays it with me and he has no issues while on my side I will drop connection and lag like heck.

I have serious problems, not with lag, but with loss, this is not related with my ISP, since I changed it twice, neither does rates matters with this issue, I tested lots of values for rates, cl_interp, cl_cmdrate, cl_updaterate, etc...

It goes beyond steam config, or even source engine games config, but an incompatibility between these two, and windows tcp/ip configuration

What is your specification (computer chips & parts)

This might help little:
1. Right click left 4 dead
2. click properties
3. click launch options
4. type -high (will make the game x2 smoother)

Change up your video settings. Try Kaizen's config[www.nextlevelgamer.com] or something and learn what the different settings mean. A good half hour of messing with it should get you running at at least bearable speeds, unless your computer is like pre-2005 or something.

insert these in the launch options

-high -dxlevel 60 -novid -nojoy -nod3d9ex -freq 60

And set your whole settings to lowest even the resolution of your screen size to full screen 4:3 640x480
