You beat me to it. Just came here to ask the same thing. I'm going to buy it anyway so I'll post back here if it lets you.

Hotas isn't natively supported. ie. You cannot remap within the game.

I don't know if this is possible, but you could set up a virtual joystick called "xbox controller" with the following axis assignments ...

Pitch: Axis 2
Yaw : Axis 4
Roll: Axis 1
Thrust + : Axis 10
Thrust - : Axis 9
Vertical : Axis 5.

And the following button assignments...

A : Button 0
B : Button 1
X : Button 2
Y : Button 3

LeftShoulder: Button 4
RightShoulder: Button 5

StickLeft: Button 8
StickRight: Button 9

Note: the controller needs to have "xbox" in its name, otherwise it will not be detected.

Hope this helps.

Rock candy works very well,Praise Jesus!
BTW this is not a troll just because I Praise Jesus.I have been in vr early on supporting kickstarters and beta testing being a early backer of projects. This is by far a really excellent probably one of the best for the price games and experience.

TY Simon, I didn't get a chance to try tonight. I was going to try http://www.x360ce.com/ to see if that worked if the software didn't allow re-mapping. I've used it before on a few games and it works well.

Hello,

Can anybody confirm, that the game can be controlled w a joystick, or HOTAS? Even using the above method....thx.

I would like an answer to that too, please. Before I spend hours trying to setup the emulator from www.x360ce.com.
But the best would be to have (back?) in-game HOTAS support (buttons and axis assignments) please.
Thanks.

I tried with xbox360 controller emulator and it did not work. For instance, I mapped an axis to the throttle triggers so that I could at least close the canopy, but it was not recognized by DS2.
Worse: in fact, even with the xbox one controller provided with the Oculus Rift, I could not control the ship after taking off. My other USB controllers (hotas, rudder pedals, etc.) keep sending axis inputs that are seen by DS2 and send the ship rolling and pitching to hell. I had that problem in other games not designed for hotas like hawx.

Conclusion: Native HOTAS support is dearly needed (besides the remaining bugs to be fixed especially in the UI). If you want to do free fligh, you'll have to use the xbox one pad AND unplug all your other usb controllers :-((((((

I also tried Pinnacle Game Profiler and World of Joysticks, and NONE of them worked with Discovering Space 2. VERY disappointing.

X360CE worked with at least one other game (Aircar) so it's not just me or my computer.

Please add HOTAS support !!!

Now there is still one annoying thing to solve: DS2 should ignore the DX inputs coming from controllers other than those having "XBOX" in their name. Because I still have to unplug my rudder before playing, and my left throttle (Warthog) still acts as a rudder on top of the assignment in UCR (see post above).

Dear developer(s), do you intend to correct the remaining bugs in this game ?

We need HOTAS it can't be that hard to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tried to assign my Warthog yesterday. Seems very hard to release a serios HOTAS support. but, cmon, its only 20 months since the last Post. I‘m still waiting years for a serios HOTAS Assignment in MWO, incl MW5.

- Only two Controllers (e.a. Throttle and Stick) Controllers are possible to assign. No pedals. Or no Throttle. Or no Stick...

- Axis of WH Stick not detected. Tried several times.

For Simulation Junkies like me this would be a gamechanger. Unless the graphics are wonderful and i love to explanations while i explore our Solar system, without a serios HOTAS & Pedals support it remains a game in between to me.

You have to use UCR (universal control remapper) to make your HOTAS emulate a XBox controller, there's no other way.
