You know I tried, but could never get into SK. Rivals on the other hand grabbed be from the GO! I couldn't stop playing it. What eventually brought my game to a halt was a series of unfortunate bugs.
What we have here is FE with a smooth creamy buttery taste, there is nothing there to interrupt the immersive fantasy except the constant intrusions by the SK himself. The game flows.
Now, magic and gear matters. Now tactical battles are actually tactical, make the right decisions and you can win against the odds. Some of my tactical battles had me red in the face with delight, not frustration but delight.
I get the feeling that Rivals, at some point, rubbed up against the spirit of games gone-by and some of it stuck. Poor game just needs a little love and attention to make it shine like it should. If it wasn't for the bugs I would be playing this until the hinges fell off.
Rivals could very well be my favourite fantasy x4 of all time. BOOM!
Is it a 4X game (I don't think so)? The resume says "SK:R is a turn-based fantasy 4X game" yet the user-defined tags put 4X at last(#16) place. I find the tactical battles the most enjoyable part of the game. The lack of variety kills the feeling though. The adventure&quest elements add a nice touch and I'd like to see more of them, plus a more elaborated story lines for a better RPG feeling.
I guess I'd like to see "Dungeon Rats" in a fantasy setting, with multiple heroes supported by very light 4X elements :)
Any word on if the Necromancer's blue terrain will cover snow or not, and if the skeleton archers will actually be archers?
The writing made so much more sense, once I learned he had done it. Now I can't look at the game without my own mental Title Guy renaming it, "So, You've Betrayed an All-Powerful, Sorcerer."
In FE:LH, I can find my tactical spells on spellbook in worldmap.
I can't play this game because i can't find my spells. this is stretegic game but no information of my tactical skills before battles?
to research my next spell, i need information about my current tactical spells.
