Introducing Borderlands 2 Linux!
Aspyr is extrememly proud to announce our second Linux effort on one of the most fun games we've ever had the pleasure to work on, Borderlands 2. This SteamOS release includes ALL released DLC.

We are targeting SteamOS and Ubuntu 14.04 support, but we absolutely need feedback on what you Vault Hunters are seeing in the wild wild world of Linux distros. So please chime in here and let us know!

Please note that we are currently only supporting NVIDIA GPU chipsets, and while we continue to work hard on supporting both ATI and Intel (just as we do on the Mac) the experience on those chipsets is currently not something we can support as gamers.

Not sure if I've ever stated here, but after a lot of investigation, PhysX support is improbable on OGL. PhysX would have to be completely redone for all platforms in order for it to happen...so the chances are slim to none.
Can you please expand a little on what that means from a gameplay perspective? Just effects disappearing or is there something else that breaks/doesn't function?

Sure...PhysX is hard coded to "low" on both Linux and Mac because that is the limitation of support for the program in OpenGL. This has no gameplay implications, only visual. There is simply a little less visual pew in the pew pew.

At least it's not anywhere close to gamebreaking :-) Thanks for the answer, Aspyr!

Thanks for explaining this to us gamers. I can't speak highly of Aspyr Media, you guys are showing other game developers that linux gamers will pay for games. Both your Borderlands ports are perfect in my opinion. I have no issues on my GTX 760 running the Nvidia proprietarty driver 346.35.

Keep up the great work! I look forward to your next Linux port.

PS Osirez is still working on his review of The Pre-Sequel. The Linux Tech and Gaming podcast can't thank you enough for making such a great game!

Have you tried Fahrenheit: The indigo prophecy? IMO that game is a blast! I had not heard about that game but being an Aspyr title I had no doubt I had to buy it. I've given it quite a bit of time lately and I'm enjoying it a lot! Moreover, it runs superb in my Kubuntu 14.10 pc.

By the way, the game looks 99% excellent on Intel graphics with thr lighting enabled, but in Sanctuary and a couple other places, some characters get a random red or blue tint. Other than that. looks great and plays decently. The 3.20 kernel should fix the framedrops.

Thank you guys so much for the support. It not only fuels our efforts for LInux, but makes all the hard work 100% worth it :)

Well your development team are awesome, so you deserve it. I am curious and I'm sure you don't want to drop commercial information in a thread. But the devs of Octadad have posted their sales for last year, with the % for Linux. Now from my point of view, it doesn't look good for us. However, any hint to whether it's been worth it financially for Linux development so far? Like I said, I'm not so fussed about exact numbers, unless you want to ;) But just a hint if it's been financially worth it?

We are very happy with performance thus far actually! On games where we are able to ship simultaneously, our LInux numbers are anywhere between 25-50% of our Mac numbers. Thats pretty dang good considering our Mac business has kept us busy for almost 19 years now.

On games where we are able to ship simultaneously (ie: the user hasnt already purchased the PC version, and therefore is what we call "back fill"), our LInux numbers are anywhere between 25-50% of our Mac numbers. That's pretty awesome! You mind if I quote this on some social networks? Be pretty nice to let others see how positive things have been for you. :)

I can't really stop praising you guys. And if we linux nerds can support in any way, besides buying your products, I'm pretty sure everyone would help the cause.

Seriously, you should really post about your ports everywhere, as information is ammunition! You're doing literally god's work for linux (*cough*andGabe*cough*).

Thank you so very much.

Yeah, I really can't thank you guys enough for doing this work. :) Really looking forward to the game updates and future ports as well!

Actually, speaking of ports... I feel like both of these are total long shots, and I also have no idea if you guys usually go to companies regarding ports or if you are sought out, but two games that would be mind-blowing to see linux ports of would definitely be Dark Souls and Street Fighter IV. Like I said, I'd never hold my breath waiting, particularly since they're both developed partially/primarily overseas, but hot damn it would be great to play these on my prefered OS. Just thought I'd mention it. :D

Keep telling your gamer friends about how Linux is getting better and better. Wait to buy on Linux to ensure Linux devs get the credit. Support SteamOS and Steam Machines when the time comes. More importantly...keep being the amazing community that you all already are :)

Wait...I thought Gabe was God?! ;) Seriously though...hes incredibly inspiring and we are honored to be working closely with the team at Valve.

We are very rarely approached for the work we do, and the lack of Japanese titles on Linux is not for lack of trying ;) It will just take time, but IMO you will see some of your favorite JP titles as the platform gains traction in the living room with SteamOS. Especially the fighters...but that would mean you might face my Ryu in a match ;) HADOUKEN!
