Best character to start with?
Zer0 was boring as ♥♥♥♥, I saw no potential in him. So I switched to Salvador but it's not giving me the same excitement I had in Borderlands 1, I don't know why. Who do you guys think should be the first character to start with?

Edit: I played Maya in BL1 but I wanted to switch it up and try the new characters. I liked the fast head on rush gameplay.

I've tried Gaige, Axton, Salvadore and Krieg, and so far I've had the best success with Axton. He's much easier than the others.
I always recommend either Gaige or Axton first so thier pets can help distract the enemies while you learn the ins and outs of the game. Around level 15-20 you should get a good feeling dfor the character and wether or not they suite your playstyle and then can decide from there whom you enjoy the most.

For me though, I have completely different opinions on most all of them depending on the Mode I'm playing within. Gaige is always my favorite though!

Gaige, that's right, fear the cute little girl. :borderlands2:
personally i started with assassin...didnt like him so used commando whos the guy iv played most on probs...the sirens pretty cool if you plan on playing a lot of co op online
Zer0 because I enjoy sniping and melee often; I try to conserve as much ammo as possible in all games. He has good skins + hats and is similar to Lilith in the sense he has upgraded melee during Decepti0n and can go invisible, who I highly enjoyed playing with in the original Borderlands.

I also find he requires skill and not just relying on a body guard to duke it out for you.

Finally, dem haikus.

Zer0 is quite easy to play if you don't use him as a tank :) he's built for slower gameplate, sniping, sneaking, killing blows during deception - plenty of fun with proper gear and attitude

but I guess Axton is the easiest one, especially for new player - the turret distracts and helps, although I don't like waiting the loooong cool down time; but yeah, it's easy

later on you'll probably have no problem playing anyone, you'll just know what to expect and how to prepare yourself for that - e.g. equip fire weapons or close combat weapons for, say, varkids, have acid weapon ready when you go save Roland etc.

in a word - play the game carefully and smartly and you'll have it easy :D
Since you've already tried zero and the zerker, you're down to either maya or axton assuming you don't have the other character dlc. Between those two, pick Maya. Maya's phaselock is very fun to use and the cooldown rate is not nearly as long as Axton's.
Zer0 is awesome, using B0re with singularity grenades to align most ennemies and take them down in a few well-placed shots, using kunais to mark everyone in the area, luring Goliath into a group of ennemies, dashing like a ninja to kill multiple ennemies in a row while staying invisible...

What level were you when you decided that he was "boring"?
Just choose a character that fits your style. You prob will do well with Gaige, Axton, or even Maya (more of a support character). Ill lean more towards gaige.
Well I never understood Zer0s abillity... Deception ends if you melee someone.. same for shooting... so what's the whole point of his abillity?? Right now I'm playing with him (Level 22, I go for cunning then for Bloodshed, can max out both trees, have both Upgrade Packs)... but, I dunno man, his abillity is pretty useless if you cant shoot or MELEE with him while in deception...

Using Deception you can heal yourself, flee from shots, lure melee-based ennemies, throw grenades without breaking it, throw kunais to hurt AND mark ennemies, get your shield back, heal partners without getting shot, and it's all about waiting a few seconds to make sure your next move will kill an ennemy. He does incredibly high damage to anyone, which IS useful.
Also, using Many Must Fall you can basically kill ten ennemies in a row and still be in Deception mode.

You can do a LOT while in Deception.

deception + amp shield + full mag + crititcal with 180% Jacobs sniper rifle = BIG SMILE ON FACE BEEEEYOOOTHCH
and maybe add bore to that :E
many times I wondered "hell, I'm sure there WAS a badass loader hidden behind this fire loade? where did it go? aaaa, he's down with 1 shot, L_O_L

Zer0's a glass cannon; high damage potential, limited armor/health. And that makes him best for people who want to stay as far from the fight as possible. Melee builds of Zer0 are possible, but difficult, so he's not the character most people will wanna start with.

For newbies I always say Axton or Gaige, with Axton being the easiest to pick up. His early and mid-level skills give decent benefits and his top-tier skills are OK. Gaige plays somewhat similar with Deathtrap, but some of her best skills are mid- or even top-tier, so early play takes more getting used to that with Axton.
The OP said he was coming from BL1, not sure that would count as a total noob.

True, but even with that the characters play different between the two games. Roland and Axton are both Soliders, but they play different. Same with Lilith and Maya. And I didn't say "total noob" just newbie. Either way, my recomendation is the same; start with Axton and then try the others to find the one(s) that work for you.
