Question for people who are well versed with Axton
Haven't played the game in over 10 years. Coming back to it finally. Back in the day Axton was the weakest of them all by far and viability was minimal. Is that still the case or he different now?

Borderlands 2 isn't 10 years old yet and Axton was never weak. Such lies were widely spread thanks to YouTubers such as VPG and MoLMF. VPG makes clickbait Top 10 videos as well as guides with the word "best" in the title, so you know that's some top tier content right there. MoLMF loves Zer0 and says no other VH is viable or worth playing, and for some reason people believe that to be fact. It's amazing that people actually regurgitated the nonsense they spouted.

Arguably the best Axton there ever was has addressed and debunked these rumours on innumerable occasions, for example:

You are correct. It was 9 years ago. Im not going off of youtubers, comments, or anything only going off of when the game first game out. Played everyone and he was awful out of the starting 4 in damage and overall was just a better Roland but just as boring. I will take a look at the video. Thank you.
took axton to op 10 with no problem

i started out playing axton on the xbox when the game came out, i found him to be really good, the turret skills were very useful
When I first started him on playthrough 1 he was fine but playthrough 2 I only found his turret to be a minor distraction rather than helpful in destroying enemies and even less so with bosses

Axton is slow to start, but he was never bad.
Infact - axton holds some of the fastest solo raid boss kills in the game. It just takes more skill to play him well than something like Salvador - who is literally "Hold mouse buttons to win".

at the upper levels the turret becomes good for two things distraction and slag key skills allow you to throw the turret away from you and stick it to places enemies can't reach its second function is to slag everything

His turret is used more for distraction in general - it is not supoosed to be a boss killer. You can stick it on walls to distract enemies - while upping your damage and steamrolling through everything.

I will keep that in mind going forward. Im thinking of doing 1 of each character and it is nice to know that he isn't useless after all and is viable. Thank you everyone.

there have been numerous patches and updates over the last 9 years.
for example, Maya's Cloud Kill skill was buffed enough to turn it from useless into a much needed capstone.

and as Renfrew said, seek out Demonite on YTube as he's considered THE authority on Axton.

as for returning to the game after a long absence, take things slow until you get the hang of things again.
oh, and welcome back.

I recommend you to run UCP, which fixed bad scaling of turrets in OP levels. With UCP, turrets are killing machines.

To be fair... UCP pretty much fixes every problem this game might still have. Farms for quest items, QOA improvements. Skill and class mod rebalances.

i am an axton main mostly and i would like to say he is particular not weak he needs builds that focus specific things to make his abilities viable for late tvhm and most uvhm other than that he's simple.
