Demo FAQ - Steam Next Fest

These are the facts as we know them. As the demo week progresses, we will update this thread with answers to recurring questions and emerging known issues.

Please take into account that Galacticare is still very much a work in progress when you deliver your feedback - we’ve got lots of things we want to polish and cannot wait to hear what you’re most passionate about, let’s make the most out of this demo for the best possible final outcome!

Known Issues
Here we’ll list big/annoying bugs we’re made aware of, as well as our thoughts on recurring feedback.

Performance Optimization
We are aware CPU optimization still needs a good amount of work and it’s important for us to nail for launch, so if you’re having frame drops or other performance issues we’d be happy if you let us know.

Ultrawide Monitors
The main menu and other areas of the UI struggle on ultra-wide monitors. You may need to switch to windowed mode in order to play.

Placeholder Dialogue in Unexpected Places
There’s lots of dialogue and teeny-tiny UI windows with voice over, and some of them may still have leftover placeholder dialogue. Especially secondary audio (call nudges, patients, etc.) If you find them, please tell us!

Damaged Rooms
When rooms break, they may occasionally enter a paradoxical state where they are neither broken nor fixed, making them non-functional and unrepairable. Editing/moving the room should fix the issue (can be moved to the same spot). If all else fails, deleting and rebuilding the room will definitely fix the issue.

Additionally, rooms will occasionally be stuck in their visually broken state when they get repaired (but will in fact be functional and able to treat patients).

Stuck Patients
Patients will sometimes remain stuck attempting or leaving the action they’re currently trying to do. Either moving the element they’re using or attempting to use or teleporting the patient away should fix the issue. And if all else fails try and save and reload.

Pathfinding
The Kouber Baly (the biggest aliens) do not handle being in cramped corridors well, leading to some minor pathfinding issues.

Game Balance
The game is currently very easy, especially the game economy. We also haven't yet implemented fines for killing patients, so the only penalty is mild guilt.

User Interface is WIP
Some UI elements are still work in progress, especially the objective panels and the hospital rating window. You may also encounter various placeholder icons, portraits, buttons and text labels in some secondary UI elements.

Additionally, notifications will sometimes not display or remain stuck on the screen. Most of these issues were fixed, but there may still be a couple of edge cases present.

Ships & Shuttles
Shuttles will sometimes drive very, very poorly, and occasionally even disappear entirely. They are pretty bad at parking too.

FAQ

When is the demo available and does it stay forever?
The demo is available starting Monday June 19th and will run until June 26th – although we may end up keeping it live a little longer; it is exclusively on Steam.

What are the contents of the demo?
The first two levels in our campaign: a tutorial taking place around Earth orbit, and a venture into the chaotic and decadent Burning Moon festival.

Does progress carry over?
Save games will not be carrying over progress from the demo.

What do I do if I encounter a bug?
Tell us and report it here! Screenshots, recordings and steps for reproduction are always highly appreciated. We are grateful for any time spent helping us make Galacticare technically sounder.

Discord[discord.gg] and our Steam forums are best fit for leaving feedback and longform discussion. A big part of why we make games is to, with humility, make them better experiences together - your feedback and suggestions are warmly appreciated!

Which platforms is the demo available for?
PC on Steam. The full game will be available on PC & Mac (Steam & GOG), Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One and PlayStation 5.

What languages are the demo in?
We’re still working on implementing our localization; whereas this demo is currently only available in English, the full game will also feature French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, simplified Chinese, Korean and Polish.

What are the hardware requirements?
You can find the most recent hardware requirements on our Steam store page. Please keep in mind these may change in either direction from now until launch, but we aspire to make the game as playable as possible even on lower end hardware.

When will Galacticare launch?
Late 2023, we’ll share a launch date as soon as we can!

How much will the game cost?
We’re still working on setting a price, stay tuned!
