This theory is based off these coordinates posted in the thread: https://imgur.com/a/TpPbK
The game could have story elements tied to the real world Chicxulub Crater drilling site because as of May 1st, 2016 a team has drilled to a depth of 700 meters, which is equivalent to 2296.59 ft, and in-game screenshots suggest the game takes place 2523 feet below the surface which is surprising coincidence.

Final target drilling depth reached is 1,335 meters, which is 4379.92 feet which could shed light on how far the Scavengers can go down.
Are we missing a piece of the puzzle I wonder
The combination of the animal growling that we've only heard from the teaser and large tentacle at the end of the gameplay reveal suggest it could be a large life-form.
I guess I'll get around to it, it's incredibly inactive right now so I just kinda let it slip.
Yeah not much going on there unfortunately, discussions should blow up closer to release. I'm not sure many people even know about the game because the awards show they announced at isn't that popular to begin with.
That must be one hell of a life form to survive on an asteroid and then survive the impact. Very resilient. It might have gotten contained at the site and was covered as the thousands of years went by. So asteroid crash brings new life form, gets covered up underground as millenia pass, humans drill to check out asteroid impact site and learn about it, find the new life form a fascinating discovery, it infects them and is now uncontrollable, all the equipment and valuables at the underground site have been lost, que the shady Warden person or faction keeping everything quiet and hushing the alien life form outbreak paranoia and then using various prisoners to brave the hellish nightmare below to recover the priceless valuables, because the Warden might not have access to normal personnel to send, he can control the prisoners actions and flow of information way more than bringing in independent teams. Maybe the military and governments don't even know what is happening or that the situation is as bad as it is, I'm sure they would be sending troops/scientists down there right away, and the Warden has pulled some strings to have exclusive access to the site as everything was officially declared a success and done with, nothing to see here.
