"Newbie Friendly"
Haven't been on NS in quite some time - distracted by other things. Joined two different "Newbie Friendly" servers, knowing I wouldn't be able to keep up on a real server due to lack of general knowledge. Immediately got ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ out via mic on BOTH SERVERS for not running directly to a room that I didn't even know the name of because I haven't played since like the week after launch. I don't know if it's a commander thing or a server thing, but it's pretty discouraging to log on to play for fun and know I'm going to get ♥♥♥♥ on for stupid basic crap like this.

If you run a server and flag it newbie friendly please do your utmost to ensure it really is newbie friendly. I logged off right away and don't know when/if I'll be back. This isn't how you build a community.

You just happened to run into some bad rookie friendly servers, try some others.

Half of the "Newbie Friendly" servers are a lie. Theres only a handful of nice players out there that won't hate on newbies.

Yeah, unfortunately it's not allways the case that you'll find friendly people. You can reactivate your Rookie status in the options menu, maybe seeing you're green will help. Also, probably at the start of the match say that you area a bit lost and need guidance, this shold usualy help, as long as you talk to your team.

Wish you best luck!

Sounds like the real noobs are the guys raging at you.

Honestly if they are foolish enough to join a green/newbie server and expect all players in that server to know what they are doing then they them selves are the issue, not the new player.

But yes, as above not every green server has nice people in it, I have had a go at a few elitists who had a crack at new com's and or players who are still learning the game.

Those servers are there for new players or people who, as you mentioned cannot keep up with the more seasoned players, if they join those servers and have a crap game, its their fault, not yours, point out its a new player/green server, they are the idiots, not you...

People who think raging at new players makes them learn are the idiots that ruin game communities, instead of raging, tell the player what they did wrong, how to fix it and be amazed at the 50%-80% chance they will not make the same mistake twice!

At the end of the day, the new player severs are there as a skill level guideline, those who have been around the game long enough should know what to expect when going into those servers.
And if they choose to rage at people for reasons you have given, clearly they should not be on those types of servers.

*percentage range may fluctuate depending on player common sense capability*

Not only that, but most of them will contain highly experienced players who almost always stack marines and bunny hop faceroll green players and go 20-1. It's no wonder UWE has to have free weekends so often to keep the population up.

Pretty much. But eventually the new people catch on and the process repeats itself. People stack marine for a reason. Aliens is not appealing enough. Especially the crappy skulk unit. I remember the older players posting SS on the main forums last free weekend with their scores. As if killing new players is something to be proud of.

Haha. Did they then talk about what a great community NS2 has?

Well initially it started off with a thread about how they were trying to help the new players but they were too frusterating to deal with and so they just decided to have fun and get kills. Then people started posting their kill streaks. Not everyone though only a few.

Honestly though there are some good people in the community. But there are probably a good number who stack and do not help new players and would rather insult/yell for doing things wrong. And it does not take many of these players to ruin the game for you. Just the nature of online games when you know the game and forget where you started from.

Yeah, rookie friendly isn't really altogether truthful most often. A lot of the private servers/clan servers that are marked rookie friendly have a lot of regulars that like the server and frequent it. Some of said regulars aren't all that friendly. Then there's the issue of the pro players joining and stomping.

But overall. If you join up and are willing to learn (and say something like "I'm new, help" over voice), people will be more forgiving. Communication is key in NS2. If your rookie tags are gone (4 hours+) people don't know you don't know better.

Who your comm is makes a huge difference. A lot of comms are a bit too reliant on the team knowing what has to be done while they focus on building and upgrading. If you find a good comm, add him to your friends list (it's worth a shot), I've made a network of guys I like to play with this way. And that only makes it more enjoyable.

Also, concerning stacking. I've experienced the opposite. Rookies stack marines because it's familiar. The all the veterans who are there to help go random and the game puts us on Aliens. The result is a slaughter. Most often those guys going 20 and 1 as marines, can do just as well if not better as aliens.

When the playerbase devolves into a bunch of elitists like that, it's a natural thing. I like the game, but I think the balance is a bit off (God forbid if you mention this to any "Pro" players on these forums) and the community is largely hostile to new players. Those two things coupled together really hurt the game in the long run, IMO.

WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE BEING A NEW PLAYER?!?!?! :P

Yeah, I think there will always be elitist players, I've seen them, but I think a mayority of the players are still very helpful. That said, I do get angry at rookie comms that don't talk (for taht matter, I get angry at any comm that doesn't talk)
