BAH!
I can't be the only one who is sick of companies littering games with $$$ items that set people apart in a server. It's not jealousy, it's just....... disappointing. I don't notice it when I play (besides the icons). I just don't like being reminded of UWE efforts in this field of trade. To avoid expressing myself...BAH!

Look at it this way: The people who donate money and get those icons/skins are paying for the content updates that you get for free.

Check out the Reinforced Program[www.naturalselection2.com]. It's pretty tastefully done if you ask me, with the skins and badges simply being a "thank you" to the people who donate.

It's a 100% cosmetic reward that acknowledges people for supporting the game. Dosn't "Set people apart" in any way.
Chris (Avstängd) 30 okt, 2013 @ 22:09
That's the exact way I do not wish to look at it. That way is very disappointing. What you find tastefull, I can find disappointing. The content I have, I paid for. What you speak is what you fail to see in my "look at it this way" approach.

If a computer salesman uploaded windows 8 onto my computer and told me it was for free, I would still have the same issue when he says that I am in debt to him.

No, you're probably not the only one who dislikes companies putting purely cosmetic items in the game for a microtransaction.

I've long since come to terms with it because it doesn't matter. It's not negatively effecting the core mechanics of the game in any way.
Chris (Avstängd) 30 okt, 2013 @ 22:29
Players are the core mechanics of this game. IT is the very reason IMO that DLC could have never been sold. It's not a story telling game. It's a mutiplayer game. So, what I feel is a negative effect IS the division bell I spoke of. This, in some form, I'm trying to express.

"probably not the only one"
Hobocop 30 okt, 2013 @ 22:39
So? Cosmetics provide no mechanical benefit whatsoever.

You should probably be complaining about something more concrete like skill disparities between players in public servers that create more tangible player divisiveness than anything else and not trying to scapegoat it off onto badges and player skins.

If you're asking do I think skill disparities are more concrete than my distaste for badges and skins...The answer would be no, Skills improve.

It's not DLC, it's rewarding players that support the game. Every primary update to play the game is available to you for free. I really don't see what you problem is.

I'm not disagreeing with facts. I just hope you're not going as far to set those players above the game I already purchased. I for one am not to start such a race.

And yet, there's probably ten times as many complaints about team stacking and more skilled players dumping all over newbies which has little correlation with badges or skins. The only thing you might be able to argue is that the players that are more invested in the game, i.e. they play it enough to feel that a donation for further development is justified, and therefore probably have a badge or skin are more likely to be better at the game than people who aren't.

But the core issue is and always has been skill disparities. Your argument is pretty much whining for the sake of it because you don't like extra cosmetic stuff for money for no rational reason.

I find that I'm comfortable with your opinoun as to what is rational...

My perspective does not come from the lack of reasonable, rational, or purposeful thought. The last game I purchased was this one. Games are what I buy. Not this marketplace for developers. If then was today, I would have never bought the game and invested 1000 hours in it.

Money doesn't kindle anything but entitlement. The harshness of feedback proves this.

One of my rookie questions entering NS2 was: how did you get that Black Armor. I was pleased with the answer, because I could not buy it with money.

If that says to you that I'm cheap, then you're probably far from understanding me. I will pay another full price to get back such a game. Instead it's a marketplace for the devs. I'm just a jester who should be happy about the money flow...haha. There! I tried, now I'll go back to whining. I'm considerably polite I think.

Where have you been for the past 5 years! You do realise that games like LoL, DOTA, etc RELY on cosmetic and mechanic variation microtransactions right? Even most MMOs do this now, even WoW and it's a viable and constructive business model provided it does not give the player mechanical advantages over another.

Of all the things you could rightfully complain about NS2, you pick one that I've never heard people complain of before and generally, has far more positive aspects than negative. Are you complaining simply because you want to complain or are you genuinely frustrated with this concept?

Wait for the reinforcement program to end and then you won’t be able to get the cosmetic items and you can be happy again.

Maybe the OP is one of those traditional gamers who want a product as it is when they buy it. Basically the old days with no content updates, micro transactions or a marketplace, only bug fixes and balance changes. I can respect this perspective.

But if the OP is one of those people who want free additional map and weapon content and thinks the developers don’t deserve a continuous funding system then he is a $#%&.
