Depending on how far into the game you were they may or may not have had a shade hive. A shade hive allows players to choose from two different upgrades. Phantom which makes you fall into your surroundings when standing still, and Aura. Aura is basicly wallhack while getting to know how low you are on HP. Despite this ingame wallhack shade hive is not very popular as crag hive and shift hive offers much more early and mid game power.

Oh yeah you can name and shame here. Just not the official uwe forums.
Then there's the hive-mind: Players (and some PvE) in the team share a common vision of everything in their line of sight. If you sneak through a room and there's a drifter or even an alien in there that does not notice you: If they have line-of-sight, you appear on the minimap and map of every single alien player. (Same goes for marines, of course.) For an experienced player, that second of visibility is more than enough to know you're there - and then they'll simply search the area, including vents. Btw: Stepping on alien cysts also makes you visible for a very short amount of time - but again that's more than enough for a veteran who has his map open at this time..
