Favorite "official" house?
I'm getting bombarded a bit by the CC houses and am going to be in a position sooner rather than later of actually *wanting* one. I tend to stick with one of the three Hearthfire houses but I'm curious what other people use. I'm more interested in the official houses (non-Nexus) including vanilla, the DLC, and the Creation Club stuff. Of course, house *improvement* mods are very welcome!

Just for context my PC is an Argonian scholarly adventurer-type. He's not much of a mage, not much of a warrior, and not much of a thief. He's very much a jack-of-all-trades kind of guy who loves kids and would love to have a lot of them.

Official: Goldenhills Plantation
Un-official: the farmhouse on the Floating Island of Legends
Anywhere else, just a temporary stay in one of the Ranger Cabins

Proudspire Manor in Solitude
Hjerim in Windhelm is good too.
I like the CC houses too, but I still feel those two are better houses.

Proudspire is a good call as for Hjerim not for me I loath Windhelm
I was just judging the houses, I'm not a fan of Windhelm either but the house itself is good.

I don't mind snowy area. I DO mind giants getting occasionally too close, but I have mod that allows me just to beat them, instead of killing them.

- That was NOT nice. GTFO from these lands and take a bath, or I will be come for you toe!

1. Oooh, what's the mod?
2. You'd think a giant would have more harvestables than just their freaking toe. Also, ONLY the big toe has power? there are 10 toes on the giant, come on!

You should at least get 2 big toes at a minimum.
Dwemer storage cube, so I don't have to travel to offload.
Honeyside is favorite vanilla house as its cheapish, easy to get, close access to best place to sell stuff and external entry point for being a vampire before DG(as npc's used to attack you) and to avoid vampire attacks in towns when DG released.

Same with Mammoths you only harvest the snoot for meat.
I could have left with like 100 pieces of meat minimum from such a hunt.

I mean if the snoot is edible rest of the meat is edible too right?

Dang it. I spoke out from my rear. It has been few months since I last played SKyrim.

Mod only allows taking BOUNTY giants alive. I thought I had some extension for taking enemies alive in general, but nope: the mechanism was inbuilt to mod.

I seem to remember a portable Dwemer cube house for Oldrim that had a nasty "security" section you had to parkour through which included a vertical platform area with a rising lava lake.

Anybody else remember that one?

Also you should be able to harvest enough hides from one to be able to outfit the entire Imperial scout legions.

For raising children, Breezehome and Proudspire are the best choices in my book: lots of other kids to play with in those towns.

In your character's shoes, I would lean toward Proudspire, because it sounds like having the Bards' College next door would be up a scholar's alley.
Proudspire for me. The kids have lots of other children to play with nearby, they've got a chance for a good education at Bardic College when they're older, and they've got both the local guards and the Imperial Legion nearby if they need help. It's also within easy walking distance of the shops and merchants, so handy if their mother needs them to run an errand for her.

I don't think I'll ever use Hjerim. After seeing what that place was USED for, I could never feel comfortable there.

I'm teaching mine, Necromancy not exactly welcome in civilised society...

When harnessed properly, the undead make excellent servants.
Proudspire is good in vanilla but bland looking since the walls and floor are stone like Markarth's house Vindrel Hall. I like houses with "charm" or "character" so it's either Breezehome, or Honeyside.

Give your kid a Ritual Stone loaded Aetherium Crown for his/her birthday. :steamhappy:
That oughta get them into full potential of Necromancy.

Who doesn't want to command their own undead army?
