Southern Lights in Skyrim?
Well, I must say I am quite surprised that the Aurora in Skyrim looks like Southern Lights, not Northern Lights. For some reason, the southern polar culture is more popular than northern, so southern lights, penguins etc are more commonly seen in movies and games, than northern lights and puffins.

But... it quite makes no sense for Southern Lights to be in Skyrim. Since Norðs can live in Skyrim, I would assume that the atmosphere is quite similar to the one of Miðgarður. And on Miðgarður southern lights only happen on the Southern hemisphere.

Though... Norðs in Skyrim seem to be a lot weaker than Norðs in Miðgarður. Especially with the survival mode. Norðs of Miðgarður don't get terminally tired after 24 hours of no sleep, don't become starving after several hours of not eating... well, I assume it was meant to be challenging for Norðs playing Norðs :Ð, but it could also suggest that the air of Skyrim is different...

About hypothermia too. Norðs in full clothing don't feel cold when it's -5 and not windy. In Skyrim... you can get hypothermia after several hours of jogging. In Miðgarður, I just sweat.

I guess Skyrim feels more like glaciers, where the air is different and hard to breathe. But there are no glaciers in Skyrim... or maybe a few at most. I guess Norðs of Skyrim are more like southmen than Norðs :Þ

And here is some nice glacier as a reward for reading this. https://i.imgur.com/urvrVpo.jpg

Glacier-cold regards.

The Dieties of the TES universe are at the very least, comparable to Lovecraftian elder things.

Not necessarily Divine, outside of how lesser beings choose to interpret them, but still immensely powerful and have a connection to Creation.

For the record, Sovengard (Created by Lorkhan, also known as Shor) is a realm within Aetherius, which is where the Aedra are from.

My lore might be a little rusty; but its my understanding that Aetherius is just where the Aedra fled to in order to keep from dying; they were orignally from the same plane that Nirn is on.
More specifically (iirc) so that mortals could not kill them and to prevent the massive impact they were having on the physical plane.

It's simple, really. Nirn's magnetic south pole is in the north and vice versa, just like Earth's has been in the past. As such the solar wind splits the opposite way.

Southern Lights....
Have you ever seen the souther lights....
Da da da da da
Well, the Skyrim ones, esepcially the "green" ones, look rather southern than northern
Though, to be honest, no northern or southern lights have the right to apprar on such bright sky.

Well, maybe I was not paying attention, but I have not noticed any midnight sun or polar nights in Skyrim. So Skyrim cannot be any close to any geogeaphical pole...

Still trying to apply earth standards to a fantasy game located in a separate universe where currently scientifically inexplicable events happen.

Honestly until just now, I didn't know there was a difference--I assume the artist in charge of it wasn't aware, either. Someone asked for aurora boralis so they put lights in the sky.

That is surely the truth of the matter.

not everything needs a purpose
isnt a discussion about the meteorological effects in skyrim something worth existing no matter the motivation of the initiator

ps can someone explain in some detail the differences between northern and southern lights
while completely irrelevant to regular life, its still a interesting little bit of info

The only difference between the Aurora Borealis and Aurora Australis is that one occurs in the north and one in the south - there is no color difference.

Edit: didn't see your post, Sinsling. Nice to see at least one other person knows basic science!
