For the record, back-sheathes weren't a thing any real warrior would be caught dead using. If you just think they look better, that's fine, but as a practical tool, they were more than worthless, they were downight dangerous. This is even true with Greatswords and axes, which were often held idle or on the march in a similar fashion to how soldiers march with their rifles (Ready Shoulder)
The swords on the back is COMPLETELY unnatural. Have you ever tried yourselves to draw a sword from your back? Even "NInja", they never had their swords on the back to draw it during battle, only during climbing on walls (in castle's infiltration) - then, they were placing their sword to their waist. And they had SHORT sword, not long.
So, think about these long broad-swords or the really long swords or axes (two-handed), TOTALLY unnatural to have them (and mostly DRAWING them) on the back.
Thus, I never really cared for the sword-on-the-back. In fact, in LE, with all FNIS available, I was CHANGING that (swords-on-the-back) to sword-on-weist.
It is most definitely not practical, but it is possible in a few instances.
1. You could draw it from the back if the sword was the same length or shorter than your arm.
2. You could have it at a more horizontal position lower on the back Final Fantasy 13 style.
3. You could have slits in the top of the sheath so the sword could angle out as your arm gets extended to its fullest length.
4.You could do what Michonne does in The Walking Dead. You can unsheath a katana length sword if it is worn very lose so you can grab the sheath with your free hand and pull it down as you draw the sword.
But still, drawing from the hip is going to be faster and easier to put the sword back. It's not practical to draw from the back.
Though I suppose neither is female armor with cleaveage...
...Unless you count that as "tactical advantage."
But you're litterally forgetting that this is a game with F**cking DRAGONS and shouting causes people to get knocked back 300 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ FEET.
and even if we were going say 'yes but thats part of the fantasy setting' ...
You ever seen the default ragdoll? SH*TS CRAY.
The realism of how we're and where we're sheathing our weapons shouldn't be a factor. Just like bethesda with friction. Let's just do what looks the most bad ass.

If you want to liken it to the Witcher, the slight tilt of the scabbard when drawing the sword makes it seem so much more realistic - The scabbard becomes more horizontal when Geralt draws his sword, as it's not fastened at the bottom.
I was training myself (for years) in my youth in "Kendo", the Japanese art of swordfighting. I also own two "Katana" swords (real swords, sharp and deadly!). I've tried with my class-mates to... draw the "Katana" (the wooden training one, of course!) from the back...
...and it was simply IMPOSSIBLE to do it!
As I wrote, "Ninja" were using the "ninjatō", their own type sword, very much smaller than "Katana". If you find REAL pics from REAL MASTERS of "Ninjutsu" from the past (19th, early 20th century, b/w pics), you'll NEVER SEE their swords on the back. If you read stories (notorious ninja legends), they were simply attaching their swords on the back DURING ASSAULT on castle, to have their both hands & legs free (for climbing) and their body free too (without something to annoying them, during sneak moving). But, when they were in battle mode, they were ALWAYS HAVE THEIRS SWORDS attached on their waist! Simply, because it's TOTALLY NATURAL to draw fast your sword from there, than from... the back.
I lol'd
This could be used in Skyrim to allow you to run longer. It would also require the player to move their weapon off thier back before they can even draw it. This would make it a bad idea to use in some cave somewhere, but great if you are doing a bunch of trading in Whiterun.
