Warhammer 40,000: Gladius - Relics of War

Strategists - Orks Air Defense Capabilities?!?
Lay out your strategies for employing air defense for Da Orkz, right now, I'm struggling with this element of their arsenal. They don't have any true capability to thwart a large air power presence. What are your methods for combating air power when using them?

Just gotta spam your Dakkajets. Nothing else is as effective. Mek Gunz can give you an edge with their AA debuff but they can't really win the air war for you and Orkz have no Devastator Marines equivalent and their ground units are pretty bad at ranged combat. Not many options tbh.

Yeah, that's been my experience as well, it's a huge void for them, I created a number of Dakka Jetz, though they are absolutely shredded by IG for examples, AAA gun and multiple aircraft, I haven't tried the Mek Gunz, will see how they pan out, thanks for the reply.

forget the Mec Guns, they are declared as AA but there dmg vs Air leaves much to want. you need at least 4 hits for even a Stormtalon....

Yeah, just found that out over the past couple of hours, no doubt, not as effective as they should be.

No doubt Mec Guns need a boost. The only thing they got going for them is that they are an early unit, but they demand energy which is in high demand for much better units and up. Besides the amount of Health it has this unit doesn't have much going for it.

I agree 100%, the best you can get out of them is anywhere from 8-16 damage, depending on heroes amplifying their abilities etc.

As far as I can tell the main strength of Orks in terms of Air Combat is your Waaagh bonus and the fact you can get decent air units before other factions like the Deffkopta. Mek Guns are underwhelming at best except maybe on defense if you have enough of them near your city. But you really just need to be ready to rush down your opponents early before they can get their good aircraft. Problem is in a massive multiplayer game you kind of can't do this to everybody. Just your neighbors.

Orks can bully most other factions they spawn next to except maybe Necrons and possibly Space Marines (Haven't had this early game matchup yet but I theorize it might not go easy). The Necron guns are good against the Boyz and their high HP low armor though. But yeah if you're the Orks and you let Astra Militarum get to late game and really develop you're just screwed. AM isn't meant to lose a late game air battle with a well developed force except probably to Obelisk's, Gauss Pylons, and Tesseract Vaults. SM can try a backdoor strategy maybe with SM deep strikes. But for Orks in a straight up fight? Yeah it's going to be a HARD won battle. And that balance seems intentional as far as I can tell.

Great comments, yeah, it's definitely a massive challenge when you are fighting multiple AIs or MP and you run across for example, AM, they are a FORCE late game and you have little to no ability to combat their airpower, I agree, it's likely by design.

Orks do have that awesome WeirdBoy teleport to mass escape from a battle or bypass the frontline and go straight to the city. Astra Militarum has to slow walk across the map. Use that to your advantage.

DakkaJets are cheap and fast, use lots of them and swarm'em

I use this technique a lot, I use them to warp Gorkanauts around, this is also good to work in your AI partners heavy hitters, some games I've had 6-12 of them warping boss like characters all over the place.
