Cossacks II: Battle for Europe

Cossacks II: Battle for Europe

Will not start! :(
I am trying to run Cossacks 2, Battle for Europe but it simply will not start up.

Engine.exe makes a brief appearance in the Task Manager but then disappears.

I am running Windows 7 and have tried running this as admin and changing compatibility to all available. I have disabled visual themes and tried setting the affinity to just core 0 of the processor. Any ideas folks?

Much appreciated,

Ted

I managed to get it working in the end somehow. Have since stopped playing though. I didn't do anything out of the ordinary. Just kept messing about. Apologies but that's the best I've got here.

I keep getting the Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime error both Napoleon Wars and Battle for Europe.. I will check the other games.

I visited the website above and it doesn't help much, partly as it written in French. Although it did give a clue.

For me the game crashed very close to the initial loading screen. The hints given suggested an issue with the video files being run on later graphics cards. So what seemed to work for me was removing the games video files, or simply renaming the directory. The video files are held in the Steam directory, the default being:-
"C:/Program Files(x86)/Steam/SteamApps/Common/Cossacks II Battle for Europe/Video".

It's possible that only one or a few may cause the game to crash, so it'll be a trial an error to find out which ones can be reinstated. But so far the game appears to work without them.

Hope this helps others. And if anyone has the time, maybe they could post which videos were ok to reinstate for them.

Another solution is to delete both of the settings files in the game files, that fixed it for my friend. They will be regenerated when you start the game.

renaming the Video folder and deleting the settings files solved my problem running the game. Thanks a lot for the tips!
