Linux Beta Startup issue
I am running Ubuntu 14.04 and have downloaded the Warband linux beta. But every time I try to launch the game it will freeze. When it freezes it creats a window that just copies the image of what is on my screen and freezes. I tried changed some options in the config but it still happened every time.
My graphics card is AMD Radeon 5770, i have tried both proprietary drivers and open source driver and both have the same issue.
Has anyone else had this problem or know of a way to fix it?
Also is there a better play to submit beta issue?

** EDIT **
To solve my issue i had to update my drivers to:
https://launchpad.net/~oibaf/+archive/graphics-drivers/

Warband does work with open source drivers for sure. Did you tried to wait long enough?

Warband always loaded quite long and even on my beefy hardware (i7 4771+HD6950) loading take about a minute.

I didn't think the open source ones would work but I thought I would at least try. And I have waited about 45 mintues for it to start up so I assume that was long enough and there is another issue.

45 minutes it's way too long. And yeah I can only say that game don't work with proprietary drivers for sure, but with open source it's works for me and for few more users.

You might want to try latest drivers from Oibaf PPA (I personally use them):
https://launchpad.net/~oibaf/+archive/graphics-drivers/

So is there any chance to get MB to work with Radeon/Catalyst driver? I have the same issue as OP. Also Radeon 5770.

I'm little confused what's you mean with "Radeon/Catalyst" because Radeon it's open source kernel driver while proprietary kernel driver from Catalyst package called "fglrx".

Anyway for now it's looks like game will only work with open source drivers.

Yeah, this is prone to words confusion. I meant "Radeon graphics card + Catalyst driver".

Have you tried the open source drivers that SXX posted and are in my main post? It seemed to solve the problem for me.

Altrhough having them work proprietary drivers would be nice in the future.

It's won't work for Hawaii GPUs (R9 290X) because support of those cards is horrible broken in Radeon kernel driver and RadeonSI. :-(

Though for any non-Hawaii GPUs open source drivers will work.

The power of radium.

You guys really should get nVidia cards for Linux gaming. At least until AMD get's it's act together on Linux drivers.

This game have awesome performance on Intel HD4600 on highest settings.
Why do I want to install blobs on my system?

AMD proprietary drivers are crap and likely always will be crap.
I don't think it's surprise for anyone here. ;-)

The intel linux drivers are working?
That's interesting since Intel doesn't even support OpenGL in Windows properly.

Both Intel and AMD open source graphics drivers working great for this game and most of other games on Steam. Unfortunately Intel integrated graphics is still extremely slow, e.g Intel HD4600 it's performance level just about GTX 8800 (e.g 2006-2007).

This is clearly not true. I'm help some developers to support OpenGL-powered game and Intel drivers on Windows it's 2nd best drivers after Nvidia's, but unfortunately Intel iGPUs just too slow at moment. In some rare cases Intel drivers even less buggy than Nvidia's.

So I pretty sure that 99% of guys who whining about Intel drivers on Windows just use outdated one from 2011/2012 that were pre-installed on their laptop and newer updated. Latest generic drivers from Intel website always solid. Still it's clearly Intel fault that many players can't update them without very interesting tricks.

I went looking for updated intel drivers once to get petes 2.6 openGL to work in epsxe and couldn't find any except the exact version the laptop already had.
