Might & Magic: Heroes VI

Might & Magic: Heroes VI

On sales now. Worth buying?
I've played Heroes I, III and V, I loved the first ones but for some reason I can't explain I was not draught to play V, I'm not sure if something changed and I disliked it, but I got them grabbing dust on my steam library. However I'm still a big fan of the series and I'm wondering how much improvement it was from V. And by the way, I played the games long ago, so I don't remember the lore. I love history in games, but I don't think that "lore" is what is going to buy me on Heroes VI.

Insights? Thanks

I didnt buy this when it first came out because they removed the city-building part of the game. Devs said they were going to add it back in.

If they added that back in, ill buy it straight away.

What? They made it like King's bounty or something? I'm downloading the demo anyway, but more insights would be great

No one really seems to want to talk about this game, not a good sign. I am hopeing that we will get an answer in either of our topics.

I see people complaining about the DRM bug everywhere. I love Ubi games, but their uPlay managed to be worst than EA

I remember they took out some big gameplay elements that made it HoMM but the community complained big time. Like I said, this was over a year ago. I loved the city building part of it, going around fighting mobs for resources.

Another problem was that the high-tier units are easy to get, its not the same feeling of winning when you could finally have 3 angels in your army.

They've simplified the game mechanics overall, but I think that HOMM6 is better than 5. Actually V gets much better with the expansions.

You'll get varying opinions based on how much time a given person spent with HOMMIII, but V, in my opinion, is well worth picking up.

To echo a comment above, it's concerning that nobody is jumping in with any opinion of this particular xpac; with as disappointing as VI was at launch, I'm not willing to take the plunge without any sort of recommendation.

I have played III, V and VI (demo). V was for me the best version. VI is for me a big screw up in a lot of aspects. They removed the beautiful city-screens and the ability to make 2 different units per tier. With only 4 factions (Inferno, Haven, Necro and Sanctum), the game is lacking variaty. With the removing of Sylvan, Dwarfs, Academy, Dungeon (added in newer version) and Stronghold they wanted to make a competitive scene for the game (look at conflux). Don't get me wrong, I like to see HoMM be competitive and I like a bunch of the changes they made (like the reputation system).

Being a Necromancer-player I hate the new art and design for the Necros. I hate flying undead butterflies to be called liches and a spider transformer to be the best unit. The 4 faction don't feel unique enough in gameplay for me to draw me to buy it.

Overall I can suggest playing the demo and see if you like it. If you can't download it for some reason, consider the Shades of darkness edition if you so desire. But then again, there are some problems I've heard with the keys. Better check it out before buying.

HoMM V Tribes of the east is the best HoMM if you ask me. You will be able to play 8 factions with more unique gameplay then in VI. Graphics are almost the same. But if you are in for the Multiplayer, VI is better. Altough I can say that playing HoMM over the net with someone you don't know is not that of an experience...

I have V with xpacs but only played the base game. I remember having 2 types of army per tier and I didn't like it. Felt like they mixed some factions. I don't know. I might try Tribes later on. Still downloading VI demo

Can you play any of them, 5 or 6, without having to deal with UPlay?

the fact that they dont have a random map generator makes me not want to buy this game (might have changed since i last took a look at it touh)

If I am not mistaken, V is not on UPlay.

If you want to buy HOMM VI, just go to the Complete Edition on amazon. It's only $17 right now: http://www.amazon.com/Might-Magic-Heroes-VI-Complete/dp/B00AYZMZ9K/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

I agree that V Tribes of the East is the best version so far. I got V complete for 10-15 bucks a couple of months ago :)
