Prey
Fix for more than 144fps with V-Sync off
Go to C:\Users\[username]\Saved Games\Arkane Studios\Prey, open game.cfg and change sys_MaxFPS = 144 to whatever value you want to be the highest FPS value the game is supposed to run at. By the way, setting it to 0 will make the game run at 60 FPS max.

Say if you have a G-Sync/Freesync monitor that has a refresh rate above 144Hz and want to play without V-Sync turned on (which I would recommend), you may want to set the value to a little lower than your refresh rate, so that the driver does not enable V-Sync once you hit the max. refresh rate of your monitor (if you are using G-Sync) . I personally use an Nvidia Profile Inspector profile that sets the global FPS limit to 162 FPS (I am using a 165Hz G-Sync monitor).

Please explain me technical benefits of having V-sync off, if you still want the FPS capped?

I don't know all the benefits but if you can't quite manage 60fps in some areas, V-sync will generally cap you at 30fps. Capping the frame rate allows you to run at sub 60 but also caps at 60 when you need to.

I think, if VSync can cap you at 30 FPS, it's a special separate setting, which can be turned off. As VSync itself as a concept should always be capping you at a refresh rate of your screen, and I don't think for any commercial screens on the market it goes below 60 Hz.
I finally got it at 73 fps after three hours. Just do "sys_MaxFps = (insert framerate here)" in a file called autoexec.cfg. Make sure to make p and s lowercase, because that prevented me from reaching 73 fps because they were capitalized.

On the 144Hz monitor, it is not possible to turn on Freesync (and G-Sync), since the resolution in the game is set to 60Hz. More precisely, you turn it on, but it will not work. You can only enable quick synchronization in the Nvidia control panel.

The point of V-sync is to eliminate screen tearing by synchronising the game's framrate (FPS) to your monitor's refresh rate (Hz). G-Sync achieves the same thing but the other way around. It varies the monitor's refresh rate (Hz) to match the game's framrate (FPS). Both introduces some amount of input delay, but V-sync's is significantly higher. So if you have a G-sync monitor there's no point using V-sync as well

Ok, but it still does the way V-sync does this, when the FPS is higher than the monitor's Hz.
Right?

No, if the fps is higher than the monitor's Hz it will no longer be synchronised. So if you use G-Sync you should set a max FPS equal to your monitor's Hz.
