I first played this game on PS4, very early into my gaming career (lol), and I remember loving its story and setting despite how scared I was the entire time (I forced my mom to sit with me so I would be less scared and she hated every second of it... good times).

This time around I played on Story Mode to make sure I could enjoy everything 100%, and it turns out it was the best choice I could have made - I was still spooked and jumpscared, but there were entire hours of content I'd missed out on the first time around, probably because I was too scared to explore and just stuck with the main quest.

That being said, I still loved the setting and story, but I do have some gripes, mainly with:

- the audio design: why is everything so poorly balanced despite fiddling with the audio settings 50 times? With the speech audio at 1% people were either still talking super loud, or super low. Makes no sense to me that no one fixed this when the game first came out as there's tons of reviews and posts mentioning the same exact thing.

- the hacking minigame: all those neuromods to get to Hacking 4 and I still failed multiple times on each freaking door just because I'm a potato. Just let me click something or connect the dots like in Bioshock, don't slow my momentum just because I can't be fast or precise enough to do a good job the first time around...

- tons of lore being relegated to difficult to comprehend texts: I don't think I'm uncultured or not book smart (book smart is all I have tbh) but after trying to get a few bits of lore through the books and magazines scattered around Talos I, and understanding about 1 out of 3, I just gave up on picking them up. I understand everyone on board is a renowned personality in their field, so it stands to reason that you'd have all these technical texts around - but if the player can't engage with them, what's the point?

In any case, this game is totally worth it. It's long enough to scratch the immersion hitch without generating side quest fatigue, the trophies are challenging but achievable (at least for the base game, I haven't gotten to Mooncrash yet), and there's enough replayability to keep your options wide open as you go!

After finally finishing my play-through and getting possibly the best ending, I can say this is hands down the best immersive sim game I've ever played. Well worth your time and money if you're into the genre.
